Lon Nol was going after Sam Sary on orders from Sihanouk.. He was at the time a suspected traitor, CIA agent, was collaborating with the South Vietnamese government and was believed to be involved in an assassination attempt on Sihanouk. This was in 1962. Lon Nol's coup was in 1970.. Back in '62 everything was hunky-dory between Sihanouk and Lon Nol.

For me, the actions of his father doesn't cast Sam Rainsy in a bad light. One can't choose ones father.. but I find it interesting that his father seemed to be everything Sam Rainsy hates. Everything he seems to be fighting against.. The psychology here is interesting.
-According to books, articles and wiki documents, Sam Sary was (among other things) :
-A corrupt politician
-Part of a brutal regime that used threats, murder, violence and intimidation to get Sihanouk elected. (The very same methods Rainsy accuses the current government of using..)
-A self confessed woman beater..
-A traitor to his wife, his King and his country..
-A Vietnamese puppet..
And the list goes on and on and on.. It seems that every time I see his name in a book or article, I learn something negative about him that I didn't already know.
Now if Rainsy's mother is really of Vietnamese origin, that would really be the icing on the cake..
