I think it's wrong for foreigners to be "helping vulnerable street kids". My reasons for saying this are that firstly if foreigners wanna help the poor kids, then they should do this in their home country having had all the police checks and stuff, and thereby help contribute to their country.
Cambodian, or Indian, or Nepali street kids should be helped by their own people. And if that country fail to help their own poor kids on their street then they will surely pay for it in one form or another.
Also, i am very concerned about these Foreigners that go to these poor countries to help vulnerable kids. Why?, because firstly they do not necessarily understand the Culture of that country. Child labour and stuff may seem wrong to us westerners, but is probably an ingrained part of that culture. Who knows, but there is a saying that travellers should experience a country, but not attempt to change it because of their limited viewpoint, or lack of understanding.
What about creating a culture of dependancy? What about the vulnerable kids being misused for other gains?..We only need to look at Cambodias Orphanages scam that has over the years worked at appealing to the hearts of idiotic and misguided western tourists in order to scam them out of their money.
What about these street kids falling into the hands of evil western men with their own evil ideas???
C'mon man, d'you really think we wanna know about your charitable work in forein countries? Good for your own ego, but i can see through that. I've worked in Charities, and they are businesses. Personally, i say it's a mugs game, and most charity workers are people with ulterior motives. Ie, they do this work to be seen to be doing good by others. A sad way of gaining a cringeworthy status. I'm not saying you are one of them, but i'm saying you could be seen so. Whatever, leave the Cambodians look after their own mess, i say. Who the hell is a foreigner to think Cambodia needs him?
SORRY.
