I'd certainly lose some sympathy for the departed if he'd abandoned 2 young kids to fecklessly bounce around Phnom Penh on the piss.
Good to see we've reached the inevitable, unverified slander of the dead that always happens. Next up, was that innocent vendor lady shot in the protest today an ice fiend?
For god sakes act like a human. He had mental issues that went unchecked.
It's not slander. It's speculation. While it may appear cruel and insensitive, it's no more cruel and insensitive than taking your own life and leaving your loved ones behind to deal with the fall-out - the girlfriend who found his body, the kids who will grow up without a father etc etc.
Sadly, we don't know the ins and outs of the story - and it's none of our business - but if you're going to end your life in this way you are leaving yourself (and your loved ones) open to idle speculation and gossip and, perhaps, unfair criticism. It comes as part of the package.
Having said all that, I can't help but think that given the increasing number of these cases recently - and the threads that inevitably deteriorate as this has done - that it's time the 440 agreed a self-imposed moratorium on starting these kinds of threads. Nothing good comes from them.
