Also, LaudJohn can now independently fact-check the story at Pagoda Rocks.
4) They were stayed at the Pagoda Rocks Resort for the period 29 Jan to 19 Feb. They booked into a 'Bungalow', not a cheap option. These bungalows are $50-$60 a night.
5) They were meant to stay in this place for the entire stay in SHV, but a couple of days before they flew to Cambodia, their travel agent emailed them to say the Pagoda couldn't take them for the entire stay and that they needed to move to Don Bosco Hotel School on the 19th Feb until checking out on the 23rd. Don Bosco is a $30-$40 a night hotel.
6) The entire trip (both flights, all hotels inc B&B) cost GBP2678 in total. THis was paid in full before they left.
So here's the rub: Why did Nick and Martin not go to the Don Bosco hotel on Feb 19th and instead check themselves into a crappy 6 or 8 to a room dorm in a hostel? Why would they do that, when they already had the Don Bosco booked and paid for? It can't be financial - the room was paid for and by their account they had $3000 cash left, just 3-4 days before they were due to leave?
They really need to explain that. Did they figure a robbery in a 'yet to be identified' hostel is a lot more plausible and harder to track down than a robbery of a single room in a 3 star hotel?
I'm really wanting to believe their story, largely because I like CD and I don't want to think he's being taken advantage of. But for the moment, the entire plausibility of their story rests on the reasons for the change of hotel and the identification of the hostel.
Wow! It looks like their whole situation was caused by a travel agent trying to make extra cash!!
Who on earth would want to go from a beach bungalow twixt Shinanouk and Otres to Don Bosco student hotel on the back roads to nowhere?
I expect the travel agent guy spent the $80 (20x 4nights) on KTV. The wings of a butterfly...
