Doubt it! WRT foreigners in Cambodia, while the ratio of straight to gay is considerably high (ie. About 40 to 1 on average), the percentage wrt to pedophilia is much lower, ie. Gays are more inclined towards pedophilia than heteros. On average there are about 10:1 hetero/homo pedophiles in a normal community. However, when specific areas such as Siem Reap blossom into known gay towns, where few straight guys head for tricks but the 'gay community' is actively developping due to the availibility of gay hotels, venues, prostitutes, and 'young boys on the riverside' that the blogger is so enthused by), etc. then the ratio evens out. Thus there is an abnormally higher number (percentage wise amongst the entire pedophile population) of gay pedophiles in Siem Reap relative to say Sihanoukville, where the gay community is rather small. Therefore, you get more gay pedophiles in all strata of the population and less likely hood that such a pedo would be shunned.
What if you replaced the words 'young boys' by 'young girls' on his blog would the reaction be the same?
If someone was publicly writing about hiring 12-13 year old girls so he could perv on them, would you be alright with it?
How many SRers have commented on this thread, doesn't seem he's hiding out so I'm sure a few have met him?
I've never understood why some straight men feel the need to clarify that gay people are worse when it come to pedophilia. Always sounds like some deep seated insecurity. Pedophiles don't fall into any traditional definition of sexuality and are more like bizarre fetishists who aren't straight or gay, because they care more about youth and abusing the vulnerable than anything else.
I'd like to know how you explain the dozens of married straight men with kids who are caught diddling boys (the famous one being that coach at Penn State), but I don't have time for ridiculous mental gymnastics.
And if you want to go down the route of singling out certain communities, there are several religions and cultures who have abnormally high child abuse rates, and some even revere know child abusers.
I 'clarified' it because it's a necessary fact to the logical conclusion of the argument. It's not like I just threw it out there from left field.
You make some very good points regarding the dificulty in defining pedophiles' sexuality. However, I'll add that it appears exceedingly rare that straight married men with kids visit Cambodia in the hopes of diddling boys.
It's far better use of time to single out communities within the country we live in where positive results can be achieved, rather than other cultures and religions where you have no chance to achieve anything.
The married ones go to brothels like existed at Svay Pak, ones that are often protected by bribes and connections, and rape young girls. Every time a straight pedophile has been caught with girls in recent years it involved a local pimp who was also caught. The reason why it appears there are more gay pedophiles is because most of the street children are male, the predators prey on the easiest children and due to the lack of a brothel or pimp there are no protections offered by organized crime.
Yeah those are very good points. Thankfully, the most recent competent study that I've read had the proportion underage girls in brothels at less than 0.1% now, compared to around 2.5% in the mid 2000s. (I'll try to find the study again). I'll also add that boys generally have much more freedom than girls in Khmer society so there are ramifications to this as well.
