Kampot Survival Guide Update.
As many of you may know, about a month ago I was pleased to announce the rescue plans for the Kampot Survival Guide, sadly I am no longer pleased.
The rescue was necessary only to continue the production of the guide for the coming year as I have left the country for a while. The plan was started by friends who told me Eoin Ó Donnghaile would be happy to run the guide until I returned and once again took the reins of the guide I started and run for over 10 years.
I spent the first two weeks of this rescue plan helping them setup and run the guide, I gave Eoin Ó Donnghaile access to my sales email account and made him an administrator of the Kampot Survival Guide Facebook page and the group that is tied to it. I supplied Eoin Ó Donnghaile with all files needed to continue the guides production, I also gave instructions on where to find the necessary software and how to use it.
But sadly at the end of this first two weeks I became aware Eoin Ó Donnghaile had his own plans for my little guide book, he decided on making it into a sudo mini "Asia Life" thus changing the guide to a point it no longer resembled the old KSG, it was in fact a totally new magazine!
I started to express my dismay at these changes and was fobbed off by Eoin Ó Donnghaile who just kept saying "Judge the finished product." I suggested that if it was a totally new guide why did they need the name Kampot Survival Guide. I came to realise this was not a group of folks keeping my guide going, they were stealing the name and ditching me and my input. So I deleted my files hosted on the sales email account as obviously they were not going to use them. The following day I found I could no longer access this sales email account, neither could I post on my Facebook page as Eoin Ó Donnghaile had removed my administrative privileges, my guide book had effectively been stolen!
So, over the past two weeks I have been in daily contact with Eoin Ó Donnghaile to have my Admin rights restored and trying to get Eoin Ó Donnghaile to rename the guide he is making to something else as it is not the KSG I founded and the name has basically been stolen from me. He, in his own words offered an olive branch and said he would rename the guide to the Kampot Survivors Guide, this I have approved and as such thought I could get my Facebook page back as the names are different, but to no avail as he has re-named the page. I then asked Eoin Ó Donnghaile to delete my content on the Facebook page as practically all of the content was personal and tied to the Kampot Survival Guide, he again fobbed me off and has done nothing of what he said he will do.
So here I am, dispossessed of the guide book I founded and run for over ten years, the name stolen, the Facebook page stolen, my work stolen and all because I trusted a guy called Eoin Ó Donnghaile, do not fall into this trap yourself!
Lessons Learnt.
1. Trust nobody.
2. Never give administrative privileges to anybody on your Facebook page.
3. Do not do business with Eoin Ó Donnghaile as he has proven himself to be dishonest, morally questionable and basically a thief.
The Future.
I plan to re-launch The Kampot Survival Guide ready for the high season next year, it will be in the same format it has always been, it will be up-to-date and will not be affiliated with Eoin Ó Donnghaile in any way at all.
