Sure, that's what happens when a country is controlled by a military junta for 60 years who didn't allow access to any of their war zones or semi-official warlord-run narco-enclaves and kept the rest of the population under an iron fist.

Did you go to Hsipaw, Mongok, Hpa-an, Dawei, Kwathoung, Sittwe, Mindat, Bagan, Inle, Katha ,etc.
Its a hell of a big country
BUT your right, its a very safe country compared to Cambodia and not overall more expensive and the people are very friendly.
