Does this mean that you cannot entertain or have guests at your hotel with you?
That is correct. Not like Yangon. In Naypyitaw, if I tried this with a Myanmar woman, I'd probably be flogged in public and jailed.......
Update:
I decided to stay for at least one more year, even though I will have to continue to live out of a suitcase in a hotel room.
The reason for my change of mind is rather 'quirky' and I'll briefly explain.
I moved from Thailand to live in Myanmar in 2012 in an attempt to secure the first amateur radio 'ham' licence since the hobby was banned by the government of the day in 1962. Ham radio is one of my hobbies and I have a UK and a Thai ham licence.
My efforts to get this licence in Myanmar were politely rebuffed for years and years, despite dozens of emails, registered letters and face-to-face presentations to the government department who are responsible for issuing the licence.
Early last week, I printed out my resignation letter with the intention of handing it in to the school boss.
Well, I visited her office 3 times last Monday and Tuesday, but she was unavailable. I went back to my desk, checked my emails and wow!!! - there was an email from the Myanmar government inviting me to come to their office to collect my shiny new amateur radio licence, after 6 years of effort.
Last Thursday, I went to their office, paid the one-off licence/operating fee of about $600, and collected my ham licence and Myanmar call-sign XZ2A.
Interestingly, the government department boss told me that they had decided to issue a licence only to me (and no one else for 3 reasons).
1) They were sick to death of me hassling them
2) They had checked my background and couldn't find anything suspicious (so those internet photos of me and the sheep did no harm...)
3) They appreciated my educational charity efforts in Myanmar.
So I'm here for another year with my ham rig and upmarket hotel room (the hotel allows me to install an antenna). I will have to request a female assistant to help me with my .. er ... erection.
