Re: Saint George's Weekend at the Vespa
JM, you're not alone in questioning the validity of St. George as England's patron saint. There's a whole movement dedicated to replacing him with a more suitable martyr. I suppose by now, it's come to symbolise the 'stiff upper lip' (as others have pointed out), beautifully portrayed in this speech...

She said that she had drove a hard bargain and gave me $5 in change. Let's hope you taught her how to use ...

Re: Finally here....arrived last night.
You need an 'expediter' to walk through customs? How much does he get paid for that?? We work for the U.S. Embassy. There was an issue with the Diplomatic passports and Visas so they sent someone to handle whatever it was that was wrong. No charge. A true blue American, arrives in a foreign country...

Re: St Georges Party at the Cavern
Perhaps beer is for the Germans and Ale for the British. I love this quote: "Ale is made of malte and water; and they the which do put any other thynge to ale than is rehersed, except yest, barme, or goddesgood [three words for yeast], doth sophysticat there ale. Ale for an Englysshe man is a natura...

While we're at it, we can sup a pint of goodly ale to celebrate Shakespeare's 448th an' all.
Who's Australia's patron saint, anyway - Rolf Harris?

Re: Damn monks
Buddhism - religion = nothing special. Whitewash job failed. Vlad - the Khmer Rouge followed the Maoist doctrine espoused by Phuket above - 'religion is poison'. They were anti-Buddhist. Read the wiki article to see how Buddhism suffered. Come on, you're ignoring the facts I've placed before you to...

Re: Damn monks
but overall the Buddhist record on violence-tinged abuse is miniscule compared to other major belief-systems, whether it be Christianity, Islam, communism, fascism or neo-Amerikano-'freedom'. The Buddha's teaching could hardly be more explicit in its condemnation of violence, far more so than any o...

And now I am dying to know who it is. Sunsan, jm, vlad, dengchao, Aia, KL, LTO? Binky? Me? More seriously, I am genuinely sorry to hear that. I have been there, so I know it's not easy. My understanding from a previous thread is that you need to go to your local sangkat. I hope you are fluent in Kh...
