Re: Cambodia's politcal stability, how would you rate it?
With the discontent of the youth during the last election and the recent political stirrings, I would say some serious unrest is on the cards in 2018. Clearly the leadership is not going to change and nor is it going to fight fair. It all depends on whether the younger generation of Cambodians want ...

Re: owner of eighty8?
The owner is an overseas Khmer guy called "Paul", along with his slutty white wife Amanda. They also own a shitty backpaker GH around the corner called Me Mate. The pair are notoriously bad towards their local staff, making false promises, etc. They had some problems a few years ago with a 'high-ra...

Re: Breakfast Deals on St 172
It must have been their very worst day day then - the breakfast I was served was not only inedible, it was cringe worthy; I almost felt embarrassed for the owner's wife when she set it down in front of me. Their renditions of Italian food are not bad, but the breakfast is out of this world shit.

Dolce Vita is OK - it's run by the brother of Nike's Pizza if I remember rightly? However, their breakfast truly sucks on a scale comparable only with a BJ queen working one of Pattaya's BJ bars. A hot dog served next to eggs that look as though they were sneezed onto the plate, opposite two shrivel...

Re: Sources and Methods #20: Stephen Krashen
I found the Dogme approach very intriguing when I came across it and thought long and hard whether you'd be able to run a meaningful course in this way. Ultimately, I think it could be done but it would have to be with a very small group of learners and you'd have to be looking at very functional la...

No way. I won't go anywhere without a helmet. Shoes, long pants, long shirt. I've ruined enough arms, legs and feet to not take chances.
How many arms, legs and feet have you got? I thought I had seen an octopus riding a bike........

Re: Teaching English Online
As far as I can tell, the whole online teaching thing nuts down to earning potential per hour v's number of hours you can feasibly pick up. Most of the online jobs pay in the $12 - $20 p/hour range - not much different to the pay rates in Phnom Penh and most likely at far less convenient times. The ...

Vietnam - the policeman in the olive green uniform who arrives way after all the trouble confirms it for sure. But why the attack? Looks like a Vietnamese version of Goodfellas - maybe they didn't pay the local gangster tax?

Re: Khmer female not a bogan/violent psychopath?
I think it's about how much empathy you have to the situation and people. You may have lived in Cambodia and feel connected to the society in some way, but don't really feel a deep connection to the people and the sitauations they are in? I mean, how often do you see a mob beating someone to death p...

Re: PP: Street justice in Phnom Penh after a traffic acciden
Good. I fully support justice metered out in this way - no need for the mob to kill to make their point, but busting up the offending vehicle seems a pretty fair penalty. Note the way the skinny oik of a driver was straight on his phone, no doubt to someone he thinks has influence, to get him out of...

Re: To live and die in SEA
The whole no tax issue which many purport to be their main reason for relocating to Cambodia is a complete fallacy. Income tax in Cambodia is largely in line with western countries - 20% on anything over $3,000 a month; 15% on anything over $2,000 a month - and you literally get NOTHING for the mone...

Re: Pickled or salted, fruit or vegie?
I thought they were all pickled in brine, hence the lack of a sour flavour - I'll check with the missus, but she used to have that stuff daily when she was pregnant and I sometimes ate it with her.
