Re: Rest in Peace Jouni "Dzouns" Anttonen
Thank you for posting, very sad to see this on fb this week. Was happy I got to know him and hang out with him, and of course the shows were monumental. Feeling for his friends and family in Cambodia. Living in Hanoi now but makes me want to visit PP. If there are any services that anyone knows abou...

Re: Taxi Ride Experiences
Violet, I'm sorry this happened to you and hope you're ok. You've gotten some nice responses and some predictably stupid ones, which I assume you expected. A lot of this story is confusing but I chalk that up to your memory and the overall weirdness of the situation. Couple of things: 1. I think the...

Re: Mass shooting in Las Vegas
This is horrible. I lived there for a year, just left a few months ago. As far as I know everyone I know there is ok, but not sure. Definitely met my fair share of weirdo loner wannabe cowboy outlaws. Low education + mental instability + guns is a winning combination. So heartbreaking.

Re: Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?
Oh wow, good to know. Do they still have the jasmine washcloths and pumpkin soup? Those were my favorite things about that place. I think the city has changed more in the 3 years since I left than in the 6 I lived there.

Re: Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?
Yes I remember thinking the list was random and out-of-date. Thought Heart was on there due to drugs, so would still be on there. Pyongyang is allowed. Again I'm pretty sure it's not that people are forbidden from going anywhere, just that the embassy won't help if you get into trouble there. And fr...

Re: Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?
Gotcha. Just trying to clarify based on my scant knowledge of this stuff. If we get into an actual case I'll have a lot more to contribute due to my advanced degree in tv legal dramas.

Re: Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?
I believe staff is held to their own regulations (again this is for military), regardless of the country's laws. Didn't realize prostitution was legal in Cambodia, but it's my understanding it would still be against regulations for embassy staff, due to their own rules of operation when they are out...

Re: Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?
For US embassy I believe they are given a list with specific places they are not supposed to go to. Heart is on it, as are the Happy places, can't remember where else but it wasn't a long list and it was the usual suspects, places know for drugs or criminal activity. And actually it's not so much th...

Re: Dutch Woman Found Murdered in Phnom Penh Home
Truly horrific. Just to clarify a couple of things about the house: It is not posh at all, very modest, small-ish Cambodian wooden house. It used to house Phnom Penh Yoga, though the couple that runs it who also lived on site moved out a few months ago. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood but friends u...

Gavinmac - Fish was started by the guy who started Metro and Exchange, it was good and popular, high quality food, nice decor. Loved the menu but got tired of it and it fell off my radar, haven't been in ages and not sure how it's doing now or if standards have slipped (believe the Metro/Exchange gu...

Re: How to start a shitstorn?
Are you really the Chef at Samba? If so would you mind if I asked the recipe for the grilled pineapple? I don't work in a restaurant, and promise I won't tell anyone, just love it and want to re-create it at home. I assume you just grill it with a bit of melted butter and cinnamon, but maybe I'm wro...

Re: Buffalo Burgers at the Drunken Sponge
When the Sponge was doing well (this is around a year or so ago, when tuk tuk fish was bartending) it was doing really, really well. Jam-packed, good vibe, good crowd. I imagine they took in a decent amount of money. It's a shame because there are hardly any non-hostess bars that are decent, fun, an...

Re: Thai tourist visa question
Thanks RIH for the response, I've passed it along.
Didn't know about Thai Visa Forum, I guess I could've googled a bit first but I'm bad at the internet.
Cheers!
