Re: ADB Admits "Mistakes" in Controversial Railway Project
Apparently from recent reports drowning is the leading cause of death in children above 12 months old in Cambodia. My guess is it's just not a particularly "sexy" cause to teach kids how to swim here, and about 6 children drown here every day. There certainly should be more attention paid to this i...

Re: Aid project partly funded by Australia led to child deat
Of course those kids were going to go look for water in the pond. What did the NGO think would happen? Cambod - which NGO are you talking about? There were no NGOs involved in the relocation process or at the sites. Bridges Across Borders only got involved once the trouble started and people came t...

Re: Short drives out of Phnom Penh?
Phnom Chisor is a bit further out, but worth a day trip. Angkor era temple on a hill with good views.
You can also go to Takeo town and take the boat to Angkor Borei. Better in the wet season when the trip takes you across the floodplains. Also a day trip.

Re: Aid project partly funded by Australia led to child deat
That NGO should be charged with first degree murder. Hope you're joking. The children were at a relocation site where the government had moved them. No NGOs involved, except where they took up the cases of the relocated families and demanded that people receive their due compensation and have their...

Re: Does anyone know? Questions about ethnic minorities in C
The minorities' languages are oral only, so the lack of written tradition makes the unsuitable media for higher-level education. Yes and no. The CARE program in the northeast builds on orthographies developed for six ethnic minority languages. Early readers and other materials are produced in these...

Re: ADB Admits "Mistakes" in Controversial Railway Project
Yeah, whatever happened to the $800 million Chinese built railway from Phnom Penh to Saigon, announced a couple of years ago? Also, the Chinese mine/railway from Preah Vihear to an island off Koh Kong?
The Government did announce they'd signed both these deals, so it must be true.

Re: Can anybody with first hand experience tell me about ISP
And the recent scandal is terrible for a school with a good reputation, I wonder what else is going on if the staff have loose morals like this. Arent there enough taxi girls to satisfy the lust of the head of the school? Ken - I love your work on 440, but in this case I'd suggest you apprise yours...

Re: Can anybody with first hand experience tell me about ISP
Bosco - I'd suggest that you bring evidence before making assertions about financial propriety at ISPP. If you know something that parents and teachers don't know then by all means say it, or better still, bring it to the attention of someone who can raise it with the Board. Have you ever looked at ...

Re: ADB Admits "Mistakes" in Controversial Railway Project
I did say that compensation costs SHOULD be only a small proportion of overall project costs. If the Government had provided land, housing, services etc up to the required standard, compensation paid out of the project would have been only a fraction of overall project costs. Note that the Governmen...

Re: ADB Admits "Mistakes" in Controversial Railway Project
On the micro level there isn't enough money to complete the project and ease the impact on impoverished squatters in the railway reserve. I think you'll find that this isn't the issue. Compensation costs for affected communities should be miniscule by comparison to overall construction. What happen...

Re: Can anybody with first hand experience tell me about ISP
ISPP is moving elementary and secondary to the new campus (on the Ta Khmao road) in June this year. The capital fees have always been separate on the invoices. Yes, there were some financial and legal issues with the new campus but these have been sorted out. As for Bosco, whatever you may have hear...
