Re: Poipet Pasport office - avoid
Its ridiculous as the Cambodian government itself produced the birth certificate. I had nothing to do with it. For one arm of the Cambodian government to refuse to recognize an official document from another arm of the Cambodian government is ridiculous. I am specifically referring to you comment t...

Re: Guam
I have been there! Not a big island. There are some beaches, lots of overpriced hotels. Small main town and the base. One thing of interesting note is that they have a very successful Kmart there :) - seriously, I believe its the most profitable Kmart in the entire chain (yes, I know that is not say...

Re: Poipet Pasport office - avoid
Just as a follow up for anyone in similar situation. We went to the office in battambam. They insisted that our son could not get a passport until he was at least 1 year old. I asked if that was for all children and they said no - only children of foreigner's. So I produced the passport of our first...

Re: Visitor visa to USA for girlfriend
There is no "sponsorship" visa, but the idea that a strong letter of support doesn't matter is simply not correct. If the lady's sister is married to an American and he is successful (or she is successful), a letter in support of the visit will matter a lot. The letter should state his company of em...

Re: Visitor visa to USA for girlfriend
If your accepted into an accredited university, then you will almost always receive a visa. As long as he/she isn't from a family with visa sanctions imposed, doesn't have a criminal history, doesn't have any previous visa violations then your good. Most universities provided some help with paperwor...

Re: Visitor visa to USA for girlfriend
A bit late, but I'd add a few points a bit more positive. 1. When she worked in Thailand did she do so with proper papers from the Thai government? If so, that is a big plus. 2. Have you travelled together in the past? If so, that's a plus. 3. Is her sister willing to write a letter of support? and ...

Re: Using creditcards in Cambodia
MoneyGram???? There is no reason to be paying MoneyGram nor paypal. They are for emergency type situations. Like you have a relative travelling in the south of Italy and has their wallet stolen and they have no cash and no credit cards. Otherwise its just burning money. Paypal is one of the worst me...

Re: Using creditcards in Cambodia
We use a MC and prior to that VISA. Have had no problems. Use it at Western oriented supermarkets, hotels, hospitals, Western oriented restaurants, and for airfare. The one thing to pay attention to is checking your monthly statement for double billing. Most of the merchants seem to route the charge...

Poipet Pasport office - avoid
Just to pass on to anyone in similar situation. We attempted to get our son his Cambodia passport at the Poipet passport office (its about 2-1/2 hours away). It was a ridiculous waste of our time. We took: Mother's birth certificate, mother's ID card, Mother's cambodia passport, mother's document fr...

Re: Moving to Cambodia from NYC.
For the OP. There is no way I'd move here with only 3K in savings. Especially since you indicate the possibility of a degenerative condition. Health care here is sub-standard. Decent care is generally expensive and you need to pay upfront. If you ever needed to "get home" - thats a grand. Need to ge...

Re: Getting First American Passport for Kid
Ha! They didn't offer to do anything Gratis for myself. Nor did Manila offer me to send copies - they told (over the phone) that original documents were required. I ended up having to fly to Manila and go to the embassy to turn in the application. Total Trip cost me over $400, a night of basically n...

Current cambodia passport requirements?
Hi, Just wondering if anyone has recent experience with what is being required for a new Cambodia passport for a baby (4 months old). His mother is Khmer and we live here in Cambodia (he was born in Cambodia). We've got the local Khmer birth certificate for him. We successfully obtained a Cambodia p...
