Re: Good experience at Lucky supermarket
At a Tela Mart on the outskirts of PP recently- with surprisingly good stock of western goods, although quite random, including very good frozen pies and steaks. Noticed a large slab of tenderloin with no barcode sticker, so peeled off one from some rumpsteak and whacked it on. $4.22 for a $15+ lum...

Hotel recommendation - Phnom Penh and Siem Reap??
My wife, daughter and I will be heading to Cambodia for a visit in October. We will spend around a week in PP and then about a week in SR. Could anyone recommend a hotel for either or both locations? A swimming pool would be great - doesn't have to be Olympic-sized, but my daughter, who is 11, loves...

Easy. Much, much friendlier. I think it's a combination of Al fresco living and a collectivist society. Cambodians seem happy to natter to anyone and everyone.

Re: Frenchy's boat, Karnika, looted after $60,000 refurb.
If I read that story correctly, the owner miscalculated removing the boat from the water after hearing worrying noises and it sank. He then didn't ensure its security and it was looted: now he wants free money to make that right. However, he does have another boat and therefore the means to make mon...

Re: Fear of vaccination
I honestly get the impression some of you just love lockdowns...that you love big government directing every waking aspect of your lives...that you love travel restrictions..that you love wearing face underwear; a muzzle. Open your eyes and look around! Are people dropping in their tracks?? 'Yeah, ...

Re: Fear of vaccination
Each strain is more contagious and less severe, which from what I have read and heard, seems to be the norm for new diseases. Some western governments (US and England particularly) seem to be moving towards an ending all restrictions soon and declaring COVID endemic rather than a pandemic. The fact ...

Re: Drunk Westerner skips bill, pulls gun (Mark Aspinall “Mishmash” from England)
Threads like this literally kill this board - it's moronic, narcissistic and terribly, terribly boring to read an infantile spat unfold in slow motion across years. I guarantee that neither poster would continue this in a private chat and therefore must think it offers some kind of entertainment val...

Re: Favourite bars of all time in Phnom Penh
While I was never a fan of the crowd, the aesthetic of the original Elsewhere Bar was astounding - housed in an untouched colonial mansion and with the garden area seemingly carved out of undergrowth that hadn't been touched since 1975, it did make an impression. Also had a small pool, which at the ...

Is that a piggy head rest in the back of a spanking new rolls? Why didn't the design engineers think of that - the epitome of style, class, grace and comfort. Where's the fluffy dice on the rearview mirror

Re: 148 River side
and gave her the don’t argue fend off and a bit of a spray. What? A “don’t argue” is Aussie slang for a forceful stiff arm shove, often used in our football codes to break a tackle, my spray would have been “fuck off katoey”, hope that makes sense now. Upon further reflection I probably should have...

Killer policemen is one way - or could the powers that be go really off piste and start collecting taxes from the mega rich, the rich and maybe even the upper middle classes properly so that some safety nets could be put in place for the mega poor? I'm not a Guardian reading leftie by any stretch bu...

No self-respecting Chav would wear H & M or Primark. Anything from Sports Direct or JD Sports with the occasional over-branded 'designer' item, yes. Anything else, no.

Re: In 10 Years or less I'll be dead.
One of my favourite people ever was a 60 something Louisianan on his third or fourth marriage whose ambition was to be shot by a jealous husband in his 80's. He had umpteen children and smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish. Sadly, he passed away at Heathrow airport running to catch his flight...
