Re: Bicycles
I bought a bicycle from a vendor on the "bicycle street" near Orussey Market the day of the big Japan earthquake in 2011. It cost $35 and I rode it for about four months before giving it away. Just in-town riding. Basket on the front handlebars. Sweet. :) I don't think that's what you're looking for...

Re: Did Garage Bar get raided re: Coronavirus?
I'm pretty sure Brad was a regular customer towards the end of the time JM and Brunt owned Garage.
He's in a photo I'd taken in early March of 2014. While the photo was not taken at Garage, I'd known him for a little while at that time the photo was taken, and I met him at Garage.

I don't make a habit of asking everyone where they are from, but in my 16 years of frequenting Cambodia, I can only recall meeting one American from Florida.kungfufighter wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 5:39 amI forgot to add that most Americans in Cambodia come from Florida, which totally blows your argument out of the water.

Re: Days off for the election
It's been a few years since I've been around for an election, but it sure seems to me that six to eight years ago bars were closed the day before, the day of, and the day after elections. Of course there were a few bars open who had "an agreement". They had their windows covered with paper to keep a...

Re: Google traffic
Google Maps gets its traffic stats by tracking the location of its users cell phones. Are you commuting with an Android phone? You're might be contributing to the stats.
Waze is owned by Google. I have no idea how it gets its traffic stats or how much it does/doesn't share with Google Maps.

Re: Hot water washing machines
WTF?
I live somewhere considerably colder than Phnom Penh, and I've been washing all my clothes in cold water for years.
Prior to the popularity of liquid detergents, I would use warm water because the cold water wouldn't sufficiently dissolve the powdered detergent.

Re: Deleting files from a hard drive
There's an app called file shredder will get rid of files on an NTFS filesystem. http://www.fileshredder.org/ If you want to get rid of an entire hard drive and are comfortable at a linux command line, boot linux from a DVD and run the "shred" command. It will need arguments, but you can look that u...

Re: Where can I buy quality eyeglasses in Phnom Penh?
Eyeglasses? Do you mean spectacles, a monocle or something a bit more "HE" style? I got a pair of progressive glasses at Grand Optics on the corner of Norodom and 154 in 2008 that are still in good condition. However, I only wear them 5 - 6 hour per week since I usually wear contact lenses instead....

I've seen him or taken others to see him a few times and its always worked out well. He does bitch about Cambodia, but then gives Khmer people a 50% discount. At least he used to.YaTingPom wrote:Yes. But be prepared for him bitching about everything Cambodian.

Re: RIP Bill Parkin
I didn't know Bill that well, but we did have the occasional conversation. Bill told me a story once about receiving special treatment when arriving at the Phnom Penh airport. Apparently someone at the visa counter or at immigration thought he was some kind of dignitary based on his being well dress...
