I'm living proof that ugliness is no bar to being a teacher.
Don't forget that attractiveness is all relative. There might be a lonely duck billed platypus out there that thinks I'm attractive.

Re: UK General Election thread
starkers, I agree that the media are totally biased. But, isn't UKIP equally biased (even if just a little bit)? Don't you love my oxymoron - 'equally biased' ?) UKIP may appeal to some, but they remind me of Oswald Moseley and the Napoleon character in Animal farm - pigs! Any party that reso...

Re: Thoughts on the International Primary Curriculum?
I don't think there's a decent school offering GCSE's and A Levels in Phnom Penh. The good high schools are both IB. starkmonster, I honestly don't wish to be disrespectful, mate, but you really should check some facts before pontificating. I know for a fact that there is one Upper secondary school...

I do understand your point of view but there are candidates that actually prove themselves from time to time that are really worthy of leading a country . Thanks for your reply. Clinton deserves some credit for his Middle Ea...

CA, for years I bought into the European Human Rights thing, Empire mug & spoon, worship of the flag (Union Jack, rather than stars & spangles), fairness, transparency, good governance and representation of the people. Then you wake up. You realise that it is all a lie. It is all a nasty, but neat (...

Re: Re:
iCAN... The downside is that there is no high school, so when they are year 10 they will need to move to ISPP or Northbridge. Why will they? iCAN follows the British Curriculum, does it not? After Checkpoint (English, Maths & Science year 9), some parents might want their children to move on to IGC...

Re: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly About Teaching in Cambod
More money IS always better. scobie, if you were offered $50,000 to never read a book again, you'd have to think long and hard, wouldn't you? You sound like Yusef in Sierra Leone, sometimes. (Oops! Another derailment...erm...the Good about teaching in Cambodia is that the students are great ...

Re: Briton Marc Davey found dead at Walkabout Hotel
Poor chap! One moment, I was there enjoying myself; the next, out like a light. Yet, strangely, half an hour or so and my mind was clear as a bell. (Only Polish Vodka can do this, in my experience!) Sounds like Ketamine to me... Could have been, mate. I really don't know. But having looked it up af...

Re: Briton Marc Davey found dead at Walkabout Hotel
Poor chap! When I first came here and used to go out drinking just about every night, I was once a victim of having a strongish Mickey Finn slid in my drink (at the Walkabout). Complete memory loss. Befuddlement. Disorientation. And, of course, several dollars lighter - the entire dollar contents of...

(PS: THE STAFF ROOM) There are plenty of methods you can use, but most come under the generic term, Direct Method Teaching , which involves the use of flash cards, miming, listening exercises, visual aids and so on. When I was at school, I was thrown straight into French in this way. The first coupl...

I'm out. Hope it gets sorted out, people! Apologies to CA - the thread got derailed, but you gotta do what ya gotta do. You can't let lies/misunderstanding spread. The faction at the school mentioned by C, Gilmore & myself is still there and still up to mischief (even though the main agent provocate...

I reckon it would be better for C to explain about the 'theft'. In his absence, though, I'll just add that it wasn't theft as such of anything tangible. It was C's job to ensure that that the curriculum was being followed; to do that, he needed to download some information (C himself told me that Da...

Well done to slavedog for coming here and posting his view. It would be cool if the whole sorry episode could be sorted out. I, personally, have found chuangt2u to be a sound bloke, so it would be great if you two could just drop whatever bad blood exists between you.
