Cambodia is a country that has been in an awful catch 22 situation for years. The government is of no use other than constructing some terrible roads at ridiculous prices (of course difference between the quoted price and the real price is pocketed) and filling their pockets even more, so the the international community has spent billions of aid in Cambodia to take the sharp edges of. And because of that, the Cambodian government can continue to do what they've been doing for decades.RBD wrote:I think it's an utter disgrace that the donor community doesn't provide all medical facilities free of charge to all Cambodians including, of course, payment of the salaries of medical staff. The government has more important things to spend its money on.
Sometimes I feel it would be in the best interest of Cambodia if all the aid would come to a complete stop, the the government has to take responsibility, or the people might stand up - and that's the only thing the government is really afraid of. Even a land-cruiser with leather seats can't stop a 1000 people mob willing to take what they really want.
