edit:

Those cars driving around the riverside with soap suds coming out of the windows. Classic.

YES!! I saw one at the Independence Monument once. Did we ever find out what they were?

A waitress along the river told me that she'd seen them too and that it was a clothes washing business. Raises more questions that it answers, unfortunately.

I haven't seen Angry Birds themed flip flops or pyjamas, or even pyjamas, for a long time.

The floating casino (could go there and change travellers checks 24/7).

Armed Forces Network (AFN) radio broadcasts (over the airwaves from neighboring Vietnam). Well, that would have been before my time here.

Those big bottles of drinking water for 500 riel.

Those little public pay phone kiosks that were located on almost every corner.

Pot-holed, mostly dirt streets throughout Phnom Penh

Kilos of ganja for sale at Russian Market.

The occasional tracer rounds up above the river/riverside at night.

Hand grenade explosions.

Hookers with Sudocrem-white faces.
