This is a totally serious question!
I lived in Phnom Penh for just a few months short of ten years, from early 2004 to late 2013. In 2013 I returned to my home country (USA) to enroll in Medicare, our government sponsored healthcare program for seniors. I settled in Las Vegas, NV. After five years of living in the US, I'm once again ready to leave. I dream of my no stress, no worries lifestyle in Cambodia, and am seriously thinking about returning in the next six to ten months.
Here is my problem -- As I'm sure you all know, Nevada is a marijuana legal state (both medical & recreational). I'm sure Las Vegas would like to reposition itself as the cannabis tourism capital of the US, something akin to being the Amsterdam of North America. I'm certainly not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I've been happily consuming weed virtually every afternoon/evening for the last several years. As a matter of fact, our local dispensary is only a block away, although I've switched to smoking homegrown which I cultivate in a large walk-in closet in my condo.
Being able to freely smoke weed is the one aspect of life in Las Vegas that I would sorely miss on a return to Cambodia. So my totally serious question is this: Where can I settle in Cambodia where I would be able to discreetly consume cannabis with impunity? I don't really want to settle in Phnom Penh again--far too hot, busy, noisy, etc.--and was thinking of somewhere like Kampot. I've seen joking references to pot smokers in Kampot. Is there any truth to this? Is Kampot the mythical Shangri-la for this aged stoner?
I know this thread will quickly degerate into the usual stream of juvenile rubbish, but serious answers please. This poor world of ours is dying fast and I figure we've only got a couple of good decades left. I'd like to spend those remaining years in as pleasant a state of mind as possible. I'll sit here sucking on my Hebe Titan II awaiting your responses.

No offence, but, given you lived in Cambodia for ten years up until a few years ago, wouldn’t you know the answer to this question?

No! I've only been smoking weed seriously for the last three years (since NV legalized medical marijuana). Before that I last remember smoking weed in 1985. My first intro to one puff dope, not the ten bucks a lid dope of my youth.
In Phnom Penh I was a non-drinker (still am) and spent no time in bars/clubs. With few exceptions, I didn't socialize with expats. I wouldn't have known who to ask even if the question were to occur to me.

Isn’t Canada the Amsterdam of North America?

And just for the record, this forum is not the place to ask where to get it, how much it costs, etc. We’ll allow broad and general discussions about it, but not specifics.chewmedawg wrote:No! On that note, yes, it’s hard to enter a bar in Kampot and not be offered it.
Chew,. don't expect it to be even half as good as what you smoke at home.

You got that right. I'm currently vaping some finely-aged Jock Horror (JHO), home-grown with seeds from Nirvana, Amsterdam. I'll be giving all that up and smoking whatever the locals smoke. It' still a fair trade, given how totally sick of the US I am right now.Jep wrote:Chew,. don't expect it to be even half as good as what you smoke at home.

The region is mostly known for its pepper. I tried some once, the corn were real large, and taste was awesome.
Did you chew on them peppercorns on their own? ..you deserve a medal if you did.newnewnewbie wrote:The region is mostly known for its pepper. I tried some once, the corn were real large, and taste was awesome.
Finely-aged. Thats right,.anybody can grow a plant but most dont know that most important part of the whole process.chewmedawg wrote:You got that right. Curing it...like a fine wine ..you will get a slight buzz off the weed not the desired hit . Its weird ,next door Laos and Thailand weed is strong, Cambodia has swamp weed,
The realistic thing to do is visit a few times and check out what's what.

The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.

Was alluding to the overall experience of relocating to Cambodia, not just the weed. 5 years gone is not a short time, things change.
