X Ray at Calamette
My parents-in-law out in the boonies were thrown off their moto by a hit-and-run driver yesterday [probably Ken Wilcox and his 'aggravated fleeing' from the EBI]. Mother has a broken wrist and father chest injuries. They both refuse my insistence to come to Phnom Penh to get looked at at my expense. They hate to be a 'financial burden' to me and place their faith in the local quack who has given them injections and told them to see how they feel in a week.
I think they need X-rays in the first instance, to see what damage has been done. If I can convince them that the cost is minimal, they might relent. So, does anyone have any knowledge of the cost and procedure of getting X-rayed at Calamette or any other recommended low-cost option? Thanks.

Cheapest way to get it done:
Get them to get an x-ray taken in the provinces where they are, then get the x-ray brought down to Phnom Penh where you can have a decent doctor check it out.
I had a similar incident with my gf's brother recently. We almost had him brought to PP for xrays and treatment, which would have cost a lot. Instead, he got the x-ray done in Svay Rieng, I then had a proper doctor here look at it, and he was able to tell me it wasn't broken and was something that could be dealt with in Svay Rieng - which saved us hassle and money.

Get them x-rayed ASAP. Wrist injuries are tricky, and she could lose significant mobility in her hand if it is more than just a hairline fracture and not set properly, and if any of the bones shattered (as they often do) she could have constant lifelong pain from bone chips and possibly be endangering her life if any sharp fragments are near an artery. The same is even more true for a chest injury, plus there is the chance of internal bleeding.
Totally off topic, but I just realized this is the only expat forum I have ever been active on where none of the regular posters are doctors.

Sigh, that's what I was thinking B. Through my wife, I've been urging them over the phone to get an Xray now, but they're all trussed up by the local quack and have been told to wait a week. Guess I'll have to get out to the boonies tomorrow and lead them myself. Feckin' ignorant peasant societyBuscador wrote:Get them x-rayed ASAP.
