Its the opposite here to australia.
In australia doctors are honest and dentists are thieves.

Just had a rout canal and two crowns done at IMI clinic, Dr Khot My in September. $95 for the rout canal and $350 each for porcelain crowns - If I'd wanted metal crowns they are $150 each. Great job.

jbren, thanks for this info. How long did it take from first visit to final visit? (I guess what I'm asking is, do the crowns get made onsite/locally?)

I go to a clinic on St 63 and they have done root canals for $50 and a crown for $100. Compared to the quote I had from my Adelaide dentist, $1100 for a root canal, it is fantastic value for money. It would be interesting to know how many tourists come for 'dental holidays', as you could easily off-set the air fares with the savings.

Just paid $350 for a single filling in Oz,
The price was a bit above normal ( $220 to $280 with an x ray is standard) as the tooth had split and the old filling fell out so was termed " Emergency Procedure"
For the price of getting my teeth fixed in Oz, I could fly to Bkk or Cam - get the work done and buy a small farm with the cash left over.
I'll close by choosing the Smile Image coz I can since they fixed the tooth.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Regarding Dr Chou Née, next to the container port, are we talking about Sihanoukville?
I am hoping that I can wait until I get back to Thailand and see my regular dentist, who I consider the best of my life. But may not be able to wait.
I am not concerned about the cost, even though I'm a frugal guy, dentistry is not the place I am looking for cheap.
If Dr Chou is not in Sihanoukville, should I hop on the bus to Phnom Penh?

They have Khmer and Western dentists there. My father happens to be a dentist and when we visit my parents back in Europe on Christmas he always checks our teeth. He never had anything to complain about their work. If your friend's teeth are in such a bad shape it will require a lot of appointments. That would make a lot of traveling to and from Bangkok necessary.
As an added bonus they do have the prettiest staff in town.
Good to see this - some updated info on Roomchang:
My wife is now personal assistant to the boss of Roomchang Dental Clinic (she is manager of human resources, customer service, PR, sales & marketing, supervisor of admin and front office staff and basically everything short of tugging teeth. The boss saw her as the perfect person to kick north of 100 Khmer asses - a very rare talent to pull off but she does it brilliantly). It is opening a new ten-storey building on 12th December (just off Norodom, next to Sisowath High School) and will be the biggest dental clinic in Cambodia. It will be open 24 hours and will be rebranded as Roomchang Dental Hospital.
In addition to the new prettiest staff i just mentioned , she is now looking to recruit 2 or 3 more receptionists - pretty and pleasant are requirements, but my missus takes no prisoners (she's sacked a few slackers) - they need to be prepared to work hard too. If you think you know someone who fits the bill, PM me.
I came, I argued, I'm out

I mentioned before that I had been going to a dental clinic on St 63.
I had to go back today as I broke a tooth last night while eating a chicken burger - not their fault!
As the tooth had undergone root canal treatment before I was pretty sure that a crown was going to be the outcome, and that was the case.
What really pleased me though was that they could see me straight away, and the price they are charging me was $100 for the ceramic crown. The same price I paid some 12 months ago at the same clinic.
The clinic is called Suor Sdey Dental Clinic and is not far from Ezycom.

Careful of the F'n Thai Dentists, had some not good experiences with those money grubbing thieves.
Hada small cavity and the 'dentist' was trying to drill through into the root, I had to stop the prick. On another tooth he 'cleaned' the cavity and filled it - you can still see the cavity is black and he just put filling in, meaning it'll probably rot through to the root behind the cavity if I don't get his 'fix' fixed soon.
By an orthodontist I had a crown crack in two already and another crown from the same fellow was not fit properly so food particles can go up the back edge of the crown.
Here's some interesting information on root canals to consider while you are at it too:
