Should Western embassy personnel hang out in hostess bars?

It looks like that "No" voters may win this one. By the way, the US embassy retweeted a link to this poll, then they deleted that retweet. So I guess they kind of liked it, then they didn't.

just curious how the thread stated out with WESTERN Embassy and ended up about American?
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST

They made up that law just for him, because if it was equally enforced there wouldn't be anyone left to run the country.vladimir wrote:Apologies, you are right. Laws are applicable when people want them to be. There is no such defence as 'the law is no longer in existence'. Note: not being sarcastic.connecticuter wrote:I was looking for info on the adultery law and found this:
http://www.cam111.com/photonews/2010/10/29/57058.html
It raises the possibility that the law may be null:
[“In the Monogamy Law, there are three crimes: adultery, polygamy and incest. But in the new penal code, they only mention incest and polygamy. Why only those two?” Sok Sam Oeun asked. “The new penal code does not mention adultery, but it also does not mention that the adultery law is abolished.”
Going forward, he said, anyone charged under the old Monogamy Law could offer up the defence that it is no longer in effect.]
Does anyone know the current status of this?

I think Conny should avoid the adultery scene until he's successfully negotiated his way though the skanky thieving hooker scene.
I came, I argued, I'm out

I was only interested in the adultery law out of curiosity. They have a law like it in India, but it only applies to men. As in, the a man that sleeps with a married woman risks jail. The cheating wife does not face such charges. A bit sexist, no?
That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.

Wiki aside, prostitution is not illegal in Cambodia. The law the wiki article cites (2008 Cambodian Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation) does not make prostitution illegal. It make public solicitation, pimping and some other prostitution related acts illegal (see Ch. 24,) but it does not outlaw prostitution, per se. Prostitution itself is still legal in Cambodia in that there is no specific law on the books that makes it illegal.doctor_d wrote:-Cambodian law : Prostitution is illegal.

That's what I have heard. It's the middle-men/women that are illegal....

Yes, and it has been used to some significant effect in that regard, shutting down brothels and locking up mamasans. I'm just a bit surprised that some bar-fining barang hostess bar owner hasn't yet been tossed away for 2-5 under the 'drawing a financial profit from the prostitution of others' aspect of this law.cambod wrote:That's what I have heard. How did that quotation get attributed to me? This is what I wrote yesterday:
Middle-men run the country. Being middle-aged and foreign is illegal.
I came, I argued, I'm out
