It is certainly a curious business model: decide that you only want high-end business customers, so chase away your rank-and-file customers through contempt, disdain and conceit. Don't they realise that the dog end of payroll accounts and business accounts are individual staff members with monthly salaries? And if I was a CO of a multi-million dollar company with the option to bank with ANZ, I'd be questioning how far I could trust a bank that sucks up to me while treating so many of its customers like shit.
If ANZ wants to branch out in the hospitality sector, I know a bar for sale that would suit its model
[joking again dude, don't be so sensitive]
PS correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 'Wing' a subsidiary of ANZ?

Suck up to the rich, piss on the poor.
Thanks for the advice-and who knows maybe ANZ shares will perform better over the next 5 years, than the last 5 years during which their investors lost 30% of their capital?ken svay wrote:I hate the ANZ.
But i have a rather large sum invested in all four aussie banks.
Great divvies, they are greedy bastards making heaps from australia and NZ.
Dont bank with them but buy their shares.

Not any longer - it was sold late last year, but has retained the WING brand name, etc. It does still act as an agent of ANZR, so your money is effectively held by ANZR (i.e. safe) and you get an ATM card that works in ANZR ATMs - but the account opening cost is a couple of dollars, and the minimum balance $0 - with no monthly fees. Making deposits is free, but generally you get charged per transaction - if you don't use it, you don't pay.andyinasia wrote:PS correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 'Wing' a subsidiary of ANZ?
Don't want to go too far into the hard sell, but it's also got a lot of other cool sh1t to boot - (top your phone up without any stupid scratch cards from the comfort of your home 24x7, pay your EDC bill whilst reading the Cambodia Daily on the toilet (and before using the Cambodia Daily for it's best purpose of the day), etc.
It is also green like Kermit the Frog.

PR disaster aside, this is probably a good move on ANZR's part. There's what, 35+ commercial banks slugging it out in Cambodia with virtually zero differentiation amongst those competing for retail deposits? Why not distinguish yourself as Cambodia's first quasi-private bank? Worked for Credit Suisse, Julius Baer, etc.OnCore wrote:Isn't this just a mirror of khmer society, like the driving?I'd be questioning how far I could trust a bank that sucks up to me while treating so many of its customers like shit.

The ASX lost 56% in the GFC.
I bought my shares after that, then sold again before the mini GFC last year.
My son is in the finance industry and I was warned that everyone was worried about europe.
This is an historic opportunity to buy low.
Australia has the best economy in the world along with latvia, I ignore the doomsayers.
Banks pay great divvies,100% franked meaning that I pay no tax when I work in australia.
The ATO usually give me money back.
We look after the rich as we should.
WING was owned by ANZ not ANZ royal and has been sold.

Wait.. what .. Didn't you say earlier last year that you sold all your shares, based on the advice of your Son or some such and that you were glad you had ?ken svay wrote:But i have a rather large sum invested in all four aussie banks
That aside, how much is a "rather large sum" ? $5 - $10 Million ? not looking for exact figures.

I think they've changed this yet again -- since they started the new policy if you've had $500 in the account on the last day of the month, they didn't charge you. I was charged the $3 on December 31 despite having $500 in the account at the time and having an average account balance of over $500 for the entire month. I had a couple days where it dipped below $500. Jerks.

ANZ really is THE WORST bank in Cambodia. When they first opened the fact that they were pretty much the only bank that offered a western-style service, which was very appealing. However, since the other banks have not only caught them up but also surpassed them, there is really no need to even make them a consideration.
By far and away the best bank in Cambodia is ABA. ACLEDA is OK, but you generally have to wait for a very long time in not very nice surroundings every time you want to do make a deposit. Also, ABA have incredible transfer fees for money being sent into Cambodia (0.1% or $25 - which ever is greater); they call you personally when the transfer arrives, and on the very rare occasions when they don't have enough staff to deal with you immediately, they have newspapers and magazines for you to sit and read while you wait.
Anyone expat still with ANZ is either an Australian nationalist or a dick - if there is indeed any difference.

I'm still with ANZ because I get transfers for $10. For those of us who get paid via regular, small transfers the difference really adds up.Teach-er wrote:Also, ABA have incredible transfer fees for money being sent into Cambodia (0.1% or $25 - which ever is greater); they call you personally when the transfer arrives, and on the very rare occasions when they don't have enough staff to deal with you immediately, they have newspapers and magazines for you to sit and read while you wait.

I think that's the model of every society today.Isn't this just a mirror of khmer society, like the driving?

Was gonna say, I bitched about the fact that the ANZ took ten bucks off the top after the person in Aus paid the CBA an international transfer fee, but I'd do more than bitching if it was 25 being taken off the top. The transfers usually ain't that big to begin with. Which is why W.E. is the choice of vehicle mostly.giblet wrote:I'm still with ANZ because I get transfers for $10. Certain businesses told staff last year that all payroll was being shifted away from ANZR because of the 500 minimum new rule. Some of that has been deferred, don't know about all of them.
Wing seemed to be the way to go as a result.
ANZ's choice act for me was to shut the connections between ATMs down over national holidays, but to issue receipts anyway. So if you followed your receipts a little uncarefully then what you thought you had in the bank while you were enjoying the coast and then stocking the fridge on return and what you actually had was made clear the moment the network was started back up. A little painful that was.
