"We never heard that traffickers kidnapped her daughter"

It's in her friggin' best-selling book.

Might she be needing more donations?

I wonder what the daughter will say when she is older.

I don't think starting a 'he said, she said' is the way to go. I wonder what a proper, unbiased, 3rd party investigation would reveal, not only of this particular claim, but of all the claims that have been made and so effectively used to pull at the heart and purse strings of those who support this NGO. And I don't mean another spin job by Kristof. And while they're at it, they may want to take a close look at the claims and practices of the NGO itself.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Somaly mam is a fucking liar.
Its all about funding.
I met a young guy recently who has an advertising and marketing background. He has just arrived here to work for free for one of the well know NGOs.
They have lost about half their funding over the years and his job is to restore it.
Their pitch-development and of course trafficking.
And his motivation-a better CV.
Are these NGOs transparent?
Are donors allowed to see the books and find out where the money is going?
One would think that this should be a requirement, especially in the west where some NGO donors get tax exemptions.

What a shame. I thought Somaly Mam was the real deal. I would think some of those girls have true horror stories about their treatment by pimps and mamasans. There is no need to fabricate kidnappings and murders. Tell the truth and genuinely help abused women and the funding will probably come.

Don't know about you guys, but if I knew that my daughter was being kidnapped and gang-raped, I would go berserk, take a cleaver and randomly kill people.

Somaly Mam on the contrary was giving interviews to Glamour .

On the day in May that I land in Cambodia, Somaly is in the midst of a personal crisis so serious that it is hard to fathom. Her 14-year-old daughter, Ning, has been missing for almost 24 hours. Somaly fears the worst: that Ning has been kidnapped—perhaps by a young man the family knows—and is at risk of being sold to a brothel.

In the car on the way there, Somaly refuses to panic about Ning. Instead we joke around, as if in defiance to despair. “I don’t dislike men,” Somaly tells me. “I just can’t stand most of them.”

The following day, a social worker calls me to say that Somaly has been reunited with her daughter. The police found Ning, who had apparently been drugged, in a bar in Battambang. She said she had been raped by her three captors—the young man who the family knows, along with two others.
When I see mother and daughter again, both are deeply shaken. “I think they kidnapped Ning in retaliation for my work,” Somaly tells me. I see that this is another defining moment in her life. She is deeply hurt. But pausing in her work is not an option. She must keep going—for the sake of all the girls she is helping. For the sake of her daughter. She tells me how earlier, she took Ning’s beautiful, sad face in both of her hands. “You’ve suffered what you’ve suffered,” she told her. “Now you take that pain and you help others.”

Somaly Mam - Pants on Fire

Her father said it was not accurate on the Daily on Monday and was distortedly reported as she had run away rather than being kidnapped. Not sure on the final details as he wanted her privacy and for it not to be used as public funding tool.
