Memoirs of a Grizzled Expat (4)

This is a free speech zone where you can discuss and debate everything Cambodia related whether you're a dyed in the wool leftist, a liberal or somewhere to right of Attila the Hun. This is also where you get to read the news the local media suppresses.

What's so bad about being an English Teacher? I've done OK out of it. Traveled to 8 countries, granted, I don't own a big house or car...

I have money in the bank, an no debts...

I dont know. I have never done it. I dont think I could do it TBH. Everyone is different. Personally I want to earn as much money as I can and become filthy rich. I work very hard at what I do. My dream is to own a fly casino, like Bugsy Segal, and do it all legal, and get scooped up by the little homie in thr regal. Mmm, it feel good to you baby bubba.

We're up to Part 4 here; in Part 1 I explained my motivation for coming to Cambodia. It was a conscious choice; I could have taken my English-teaching skills to the Middle East, or climb the greasy pole in England if money had been my motivation. My dreams were different to yours. I think i wrote there that some people reach for heaven, but I was more inclined to hell - precisely because Cambodia was so fucked up is the reason I chose to come here.

Bargirl mentality. Money is necessary, but not god.You criticise bargirls who go after fat old rich men, but you want the same thing?

Please point out where I have criticised young women for wanting to make as much money as they possibly can to better their lives.

Take a hint from someone who HAS achieved his goals in life. If you are serious about that statement and not just trying to antagonise people here (in other posts), you've lost the plot completely.

And FYI, I am neither old nor fat. But that's all relative.

Does one need to have goals to be a decent human being?
How many people on here set themselves goals?
I just cant be bothered.

Thanks GM. It was getting a bit silly. No hard feelings chaps. I'm in the UK. Finished my work at about 10am and it's been pissing down and blowing a gale all day. What better way to spend a day than chatting to you wonderful people.

And an apology to nedK whom I may have offended with my comments about people who eat too much.

Cheers.

"Now paint this image in your mind’s eye: a group of gorgeous young ladies in fetching (and some very revealing) black cocktail dresses, hair and makeup immaculate – glamorous, sexy, penniless, hungry. That’s poverty too".

I've been thinking about making some T-shirts which say "Poverty is not Sexy!" for distribution at PP girlie bars.......still gotta work out what image/graphic to go with it.......

from article:

I asked a very attractive older hostess who used her ID to get me a SIM card what she’d like to do with her life if she had a completely free choice. She told me she’d be so happy if she could buy a stall outside the Central Market, cooking chicken and rice for passers-by. She’d enjoy her work, be her own boss and support herself and her little boy. That’s a lovely dream – would it be yours?

so why doesn't she just go out and do it then?

No one is going to give you a break when you wallow in self-pity for yourself.

Trouble with many of these women is that they fall into the 'poor me' category.

Life sucks, but one can pull oneself out of the gutter if the drive is there.
