Went to the Cellcard shop to get hooked up to the internet and tether my phone, so I'm good now.
My wife called Mint to inform her that friends of Henning are dipping in to support her and she is very pleased if somewhat incredulous that people who have never met her are so kind. You're all making a previously rather insecure person very relieved!

If you prefer to use Western Union, PM me and I'll send you her details. If you prefer to transfer into my bank (ACLEDA or CAMPU Bank) PM me and I'll give you those details - same goes for anyone who wishes to donate through those routes.Hanno wrote:I am in Cambodia, but in Siem Reap.
I could transfer my donation via a bank transfer as long as someone gets me some account details?

I see that there is a lot of money pouring for Mint. Whenever you intend giving it to her, please bear in mind that she is alone in that house the whole day and will be until the 2nd of October. I don't know whether it's a good or bad neighbourhood but down the street at the corner is a shop where lots of motos and tuc tuc drivers meet and news travels fast. It did seem a bit scary to me going past them on the way back to our hotel. Personally I think it might be a better idea to send her the money when she is in Thailand with her family and they can collect it together. Mint's ticket has been paid by Henning's boss and I have sent her sufficient funds to see her through till Thailand. Perhaps this can be mentioned by Andy's wife when she calls Mint next and when I call her tomorrow I will certainly suggest it to her.

That is very sensible advice, sister! Perhaps a bank account can be set up rather handing over cash. Or western union it to her when in thailand. Hopefully a few readers will discuss in person what approach to take.

Sure H, my wife will discuss that with Mint next time she calls.
Henning's brother has also been in touch and would like me to pass on his email for anyone who wishes to give him further information about Henning's life in Cambodia. I think it's okay to reproduce the correspondence:
hi andy. i am henning's brother. i live in hano. i understand that you were a friend of henning's?!
@ndy's Cafe
Hello Horst. Yes, we did meet in Garage bar when you visited Henning in PP a few months ago. I'm very sorry for your loss, as are so many people here that Henning helped over the years. If you are checking the K440 thread I started, you might see that at the moment my wife and I are trying to make sure Mint is okay.
Horst Wessel thanks. i am both surprised abd happy that henning knew and helped so many people. he never talked about that. i did not know much about his life in pp. could you pass ny email on to his frieds in pp. i would like to find out more.
[email protected]
thanks again!
@ndy's Cafe I will gladly do that Horst.

If Horst could help to organise donations to Mint, I'm sure that many of us would feel greatly reassured.
I have still not understood exactly how we can help -- an IBAN number for an account for Mint would be great.

I just want to thank the posters who have already been kind enough to send generous donations to give to Mint during this rough time for her.
Andy and I are meeting up on Friday, so I'll have it all ready by then. We will obviously discuss the best way to give it to her.
And ,as mentioned by Henning's sister, there might be a better idea than just showing up and handing it all over to her at home, but I can also tell you that our block is not a dangerous area, and everything is locked up tight at night. The only thing of mine to go missing over the past year of living on our street was my $2 moto helmet, which was just sitting on my moto one random night, not locked up.
(Although I do remember Henning telling me once how a motorbike of his kept getting random pieces stolen off it even though it was behind their locked gate. They have since completely secured the top of the fence, so no problems after that. Again, this is Cambodia, so that kind of thing happens in every neighborhood, even in Western countries.)
Andy will update you after we meet, of course.

Unfortunately, Horst lives in Vietnam, which doesn't really help when trying to give money to someone that is moving from Cambodia back to Thailand.kerouac2 wrote:If Horst could help to organise donations to Mint, I'm sure that many of us would feel greatly reassured.

And I'm not even sure Mint has any sort of bank account, so an IBAN might not be feasible.

Please allow me to chip in;
Hold all the monies. Many people want to help, so Cambod perhaps arrange a central point here in Cambodia , ( except for those already in Thailand) for monies to be sent and how and since his sister has provided funds for her till she gets to Thailand, she does not need that $ here.
than go to the Cambodian commercial bank here ( which i believe is tied with the bank in Thailand as they use the same logo) ) an than u can transfer all the funds to her easily.
Simplifies matters
Just my $05 worth

Once she returns to Thailand have Mint open a Siam Commercial bank account and provide the account #Personally I think it might be a better idea to send her the money when she is in Thailand with her family and they can collect it together. danny and I will be at Garage c.7.30 Friday.
Mint got the money Hennings sister sent yesterday but after a long struggle. for reasons i cant go into, for Mint cash in hand is far preferable to sending money to her via a bank. she doesnt have any account.
she wants to sell a bed tv dvd player etc. I'll take pics on Sat and post.
generally, I think giving cash when shes ready to leave for Bangkok is fine.

I think it makes sense to ask Mint how she would prefer to receive the money. She probably has a good sense of whether her neighborhood is dangerous or whether getting the bank/family/whatever involved is more risk for her! She's an adult and I think she can decide whether she'd prefer cash in Cambodia or a bank transfer in Thailand.
It sounds like Cambod is taking contributions via Paypal, Andy is taking contributions via bank transfer with ACLEDA and CAMPU, and jm is taking cash contributions. I can take ANZ contributions for anyone in Cambodia that would prefer to do it that way (might just be Hanno), and I'll deliver to jm/Andy/Cambod at Garage.
*Sorry, just saw that Andy clarified the cash vs bank issue

I gotta say, it's the measure of the man, to see his friends step up so fast and in such numbers.
I believe he's left more than a few good ones behind to carry on.
