Well Mint was good enough for SunSan/Henning to spend money on so Mint is good enough for me to spend money on. What she chooses to do with the money is entirely up to her. I actually don't even give a flying Fck if she gambles it all away. However, I do agree re. the family and I think that has already been implied, and that Mint isn't too keen for them to get their hands on that money either.Phuket2006 wrote:yes, like i said, roads are fine as there has been no rain this week up there.
Since she is thai I would think she would feel more at home with her relatives rather than a bunch of Barangs, even though they are kind hearted
same about bank account. if she has id card or passport, it takes about 5 minutes to open a bank account in Thailand.
I dont know her and this is no way bad about her, but giving a thai a bunch of a cash is something i would not do. To easy to spend an when the relatives knows she has $$ they will all have their hands out.

I had Known Henning since 2007, I regarded him as a friend, he never had a bad word to say about anyone, he was honest and friendly, I shall miss him and Cambodia has lost a friend.
During 2007 and 2008 I drank with Henning many, many times in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
When he moved to PP, I would travel from SR and meet up with him, he took me in bars I had not discovered myself, he took me in the Broken Brick, Smile Bar, Zapatas and Sophie's Bar to name a few.
We went in the Broken Brick a few times back then.
I last saw Henning about 10 weeks ago, we shared a bus (Royal Ibis) from PP to SR, he looked ill and I knew he was feeling crap, I presumed he would get better, I had called him over the last week or so, I thought he was in Vietnam as the phone was off.
Toady I stumble on this thread and find he has gone.
RIP Henning, you were a good guy.

Having visited Mint again, I am clearer as to why she has postponed her departure. She will be living with her family (elder sister) in Nakon Sawan, which is NW of Bangkok in mid-Thailand, an area that experiences the worst of the now annual flooding. Her family's home is in a currently heavily flooded area. She could, therefore, get to Bangkok, but she has no one to stay with there, so she needs to wait for the floods to relent in her province.
Without Henning, she's extremely bored and lonely in Phnom Penh and is keen to get back to Thailand as quickly as possible. I'd played safe and led her to expect less than 50% of the total K440 posters raised, so when we handed the cash to her today she was very pleasantly surprised. She realises that she has no chance of working and earning money given her health condition, so I'm sure she will try to make the donations last for as long as possible. She'd like me to thank you all profusely on her behalf.

Andy, thanks for the update. Maybe someone who wants to donate but hasn't yet could just tell Mint they are paying for the goods she wants to offload?
I'll be thinking of her over the coming years, wondering what becomes of her when the money runs out. I hope she is ok.

My wife will try to keep in touch with her. I say 'try' - Mint doesn't know how to use Facebook and can barely use email. She gave us her Hotmail account, but when we got home we realised she'd written her password@hotmail.com! I'm not sure what access she'd have to the internet or how often she'd check email. Hopefully keeping contact via sms will be straightforward. I'll pass on any significant news.violet wrote:Andy, thanks for the update. Did SunSan have any children?
Although this has been a sad post if offers us one of the few posts of substance where people haven't called fellow posters derogatory names. SunSan's influence still alive.

If I knew for certain that a person was coming to my house with the intent of doing me good, I would run for my life HDT

The nature of this thread is a reflection of the man himself. His family in Germany tell me they have learned a lot about his life in Cambodia that he never mentioned to them. They're finding the thread a great comfort.

We all must "die" and return to the spirit realms. Sunsan did what he did, died when he did, let's say our thanx for whatever, then get on living, being nice to our family and friends, being as any embodied divine spirit should act in a human form....
Couldn't believe it when I saw this thread. Only met Henning on a couple of occasions but he'll be missed. He was one of the good ones.
