Fake Driver's License
In Thailand, you can buy fake ID on the street. Does anyone know where you can do this in Cambodia?
try the photocopy shops on street 110 near Norodom.

I would imagine it would not be smart to enquire about this.
Licences are one of the main sources of income for the Traffic Department/Police.
Don't expect fun if you mess with their income.
It's $35, much cheaper than a visit to Calmette/ Prey Sar. And even if you get caught without a licence, it would probably be even less than $35 to make it go away.

And if you ask for a receipt it actually goes to the departmentvladimir wrote:Licences are one of the main sources of income for the Traffic Department/Police.
If I can I do a quick U-turn and go *around the block* to detour them if they flag me down. Though it does help that they move out into the road while you're some distance away. The other time recently I was heading south on Monivong and turned left onto 108st. The copper just inside the junction was obviously asleep as I was level with him when he stepped forward and shouted stop. Needless to say he got ignored.
Failure to have a Cambo driving lincense 5000R per stop. Been stung about 4 or 5 times over 2 years. But tbh I've been meaning to get one. Also some guy I was chatting to in a bar, who appeared to be clued up on the whole license thing said I could drive in the UK on a Cambo license as my UK license would become invalid after a certain period of time. I can't recall the details as it was in a bar ergo I'd had a few lol but maybe someone on here could shed some light on that while not going too OT.
I'm pretty sure you can't drive legally in any western country with a Cambodian license..Ira_Hayes wrote:Also some guy I was chatting to in a bar, who appeared to be clued up on the whole license thing said I could drive in the UK on a Cambo license as my UK license would become invalid after a certain period of time. I am pretty sure you can.
In Australia for example, you can drive on your home country licence for 3 months after you arrive.
If you are not on a permanent visa, such as a student vosa you can drive on your home licence the whole time.
My wife legally and briefly was able to drive on her Cambodian licence in OZ.
I am pretty sure it is the same for most countries in the world.
However a Cambo licence and many third world licence cannot just be swapped over for a local licence in most countries, they need to take the full test, whereas people from the developed world can often just trade their home licence in and get a new one in their new country.
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

A fake licence costs $25 and takes a day, ask at any shop where they get you a real one.
The Cambo police can tell the difference between a real one and a fake one (real hologram), but those in other countries cannot.
It is the same with rego cards for vehicles.

I hope you're right. Does it work if a Brit gets a license in Cambodia and uses it in UK or another EU country though? Or if an Australian gets a Cambodian license and uses it in f.ex. Mexico?LaudJohn wrote:I am pretty sure you can.
I've been driving around in Scandinavia on a 125cc bike with my Cambodian license in my pocket, but I haven't been stopped yet. I'd planned on just driving until I was stopped and told it wasn't allowed. If you're right, I am actually driving legally.. That would be very good news.
I thought at least I'd need an international driver's license or a translation of the Cambodian license.

Varies by jurisdiction, of course.
In California, you can use any current foreign license without an IDP, but an IDP is recommended. IIRC, Oregon requires an IDP with a current foreign license. Of course in NO jurisdiction are you allowed to drive with ONLY an IDP.

I think its country dependant.. Yes western licenses are more universally accepted, due to actually being a standards test, but developing world ones are not. Tho if you can get a developing world IDP that is useful for short periods.
Eg my sister in Law couldnt convert her Thai to a Belgian license.. Another different sis in law couldnt even use (as opposed to convert) a Thai in the UK (but may have been down to insurance). Remember its not just the licensing its getting insurance on that license which can be a struggle also.
Also important to know the IDP from the IDL.Sateev wrote:Varies by jurisdiction, of course.

So.. does anyone know if/where you can get an IDP in Cambodia?
