Ok, and I pretty much agreed with that part too.damn wrote:... Good Cambodian doctors do exist if you know where to go. That doesn't mean they are all good by any means and I would not trust the vast majority of them. It's only my limited experience. Take that how you like. I would for sure go to Bangkok if I needed major surgery.

An unrelated (to child birth) question...
I visited a large hospital in China a few times (not as patient) in Fushion (Liaoning), and was shocked... people smoking in the corridors and spitting on floors is common.
Any of that going on in Cambodia?

My wife was going on monthly check-ups at Calmette in the beginning of the pregnancy. They were a joke.
After her experience with Calmette she decided she wanted to do the birth in Bangkok. Giving birth do a big baby was not without complications, but it was all well handled by very competent Thai medical personnel. She was very happy with the decision to go to Bangkok.

Feral cats running around the wards and corridors at the Japanese maternity hospital. I snapped a few photos of them. One photo is of a cat tearing into a pile of medical waste while its companion pounces on an escaping cockroach. This in a hallway outside the surgeryDon-Pierre de Plume wrote:An unrelated (to child birth) question...

That's like, your opinion, man.
China is the example country, where a huge superior looking glass palace does not have any relation with the inside quality.......

What a stupid thread this has been. Six pages of useless bickering. Could someone salvage it by posting actual information that could help someone make a decision in the future? Since everything else is subjective, how about some prices? At least it could narrow down the options for a few future parents. I don't plan on having kids anytime soon but a six-page thread with little useful info seems a bit lame. I'll help you guys out ad those who have actually had kids here can chime in:
Option 1: Bangkok
Cost of a natural birth (no complications):
Package deals? How many days? Cost per day?
Additional Costs: overland trip cost, cost of hotels near the hospital etc.
Option 2: Royal Rattanak:
Cost of a natural birth (no complications):
Package deals? How many days? Cost per day?
Option 3: Calmette VIP:
Cost of a natural birth (no complications):
Package deals? How many days? Cost per day?
Option 4: Sompop Sorphea Maternity Clinic, St. 125
Cost of a natural birth (no complications):
Package deals? How many days? Cost per day?
Option 5: Kamoul Pich Cinic
Cost of a natural birth (no complications):
Package deals? How many days? Cost per day?
Despite not having a kid, I think it would be really good info (even if it's a few years old) so that people can get a ball-park figure on costs are various places, along with personal experiences there.

Didn't you read my post? I met one stupid Cambodian doctor, therefore they must ALL be stupid, thus avoided.LexusSchmexus wrote: Could someone salvage it by posting actual information that could help someone make a decision in the future?
Go to Bangkok.
An expat from Phnom Penh choose to gave birth in a Bangkok hospital in 2008. Back then it's more understandable. Here's what she says about how long it takes, the trip and hotel costs.LexusSchmexus wrote: Option 1: Bangkok

At 36 weeks pregnant (the latest most airlines let you fly) I departed Phnom Penh, first having to produce a letter from the doctor at check-in after the staff looked me up and down and queried my due date. In Bangkok we stayed conveniently close to Samitivej Hospital at Tropical Residence, a comfortable serviced apartment complex with a pool, gym, and even a complimentary tuk-tuk service to the nearby shops, cafés and Skytrain stop.
We eventually returned to Phnom Penh after a long and arduous wait of nearly a month for Zara’s birth certificate, Australian citizenship and Australian passport to be processed.

How about the juicy details? 10k, 15k? How much does it fricking cost. If it's 25k to get a kid in Bangkok then I can understand why many would decide to put a piece of wood in their wife's mouth and tell her to push hard. Giving birth isn't exactly rocket science and women have been doing it for at least... I dunno 100 years at least. I want some cold, hard figures.
Should definitely go to Bangkok.LexusSchmexus wrote: I want some cold, hard fingers.

I dunno about needing to go to Bangkok, you come in highly recommended by LPB, LJ and Vlad among others. (Plus, I saw that picture of you lying on a couch with a keyboard in that other thread).

Couple years out of date but... ~30k-80k. 65k being high average. Plus travel and accommodation.LexusSchmexus wrote:How about the juicy details? 10k, 15k? How much does it fricking cost.
