Australian Embassy
So after sign language through a glass wall with a security officer i finally get inside, now its time to empty all pockets of everything, next the security screen.
Now to the reception where im AGAIN talking to a glass wall and what might as well be a Cambodian puppet.... i ask if i can get my passport verified as a true copy she muffles through the glass i will need to pay $32 to get a signature on a peice of paper, I said i have payed $25000 in taxes for the year and not even lived in the country now you want another $32? Sort your shit out Australian embassy worst experience ive had in Phnom Penh ever.....32 fucking dollars for a signature what a fucking joke!

Yeah, $32 isn't bad at all. I paid about 45 quid when I got it done in London. Had to get my medicare card done, too, so it was a very expensive morning...

It was to verify a photocopy of my passport to send to a super account that im rolling over, They must be using some special ink! No drama il get it done in Australia from the airport police, it seems its a big operation to sign something at the embassy here.

You whine about the fee, but put down English teachers who are also cautious in another thread (bike for sale)?

i would have rung them first to clarify the process/cost....notwithstanding that back home you can get documents certified at every turn with minimal fuss and no cost....the security stuff is just routine....

Slightly off topic, but a friend of mine got married in Thailand many years ago, the fee to register the marriage (similar to a revenue stamp) was 10 baht. 10 effing baht! I suppose the government's reasoning is:badboybubby wrote:i would have rung them first to clarify the process/cost....notwithstanding that back home you can get documents certified at every turn with minimal fuss and no cost....the security stuff is just routine....
You poor bastard, you're getting married, let's make this as painless as possible, because there is so much pain coming...

Back in the day I had to get a photo copy of my passport verified by an attorney, JP, judge etc. etc.
I lived in Pattaya so walked into a local lawyers office and was told 2,000 baht. I walked out.
A few doors down was a estate agent office with a ferang sitting behind the desk.
He'll know where I can find a reasonable deal.
" I can do that for you" he said, thumping a little red stamp onto the copy and signing it. No charge.
Long story short, it passed muster.
Does anyone actually inspect these verification stamps?
Mine read "Pattaya Law Office" around the perimeter.
