PP or Sihanoukville long term
PP or Sihanoukville long term
I am considering moving to Cambodia and have spent time both in PP and Sihanoukville. I see pluses and minuses to both. Anyone have any thoughts or insight?
Flame away.
Flame away.
Pluses for Sihanouville 1. beaches 2. less crowded 3. less expensive 4. very friendly expat community
PP + more cosmopolitan, better access to goods and services medical transportation better infrastructure

And so the rain tumbles down and the flies gather at the occateul restaurants and the wife beater clad expats have another 75 cent beer and there's nothing to fuckin do....

I dunno about nothing to do...
you can drink 75 cent beers and beat your wife ......
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Keeping in mind that I have visited Sihanoukville several times but never lived there, here are my immediate thoughts:
1. Police corruption and general crime rate seem significantly worse in Sihanoukville than Phnom Penh.
2. The expat community in Sihanoukville is significantly smaller.
3. You are much more likely to come in frequent contact with backpackers and other budget tourists during high season in Sihanoukville than in Phnom Penh.
4. Other than beach/water sports, there seems to be very little to do in Sihanoukville other than go to bars. Phnom Penh is at least a bit better in this regard.
5. The expat community in Sihanoukville seems to be more transient than in Phnom Penh, with fewer longterm residents. That is my impression, but i could be wrong.
