ANZ Royal not so grand
I don't know. I don't have any strong views on the subject. Besides, your question is too vague. Your definition of 'tough' and 'light' might not be the same as mine, so the debate is meaningless.

Got an image in my head of a Red Dragon wearing a flak jacket and urinating into an empty 4 pint milk bottle and stuffing cash under the mattress.

I know it doesn't suit you permanent residents for all purposes, but as a regular visitor I got a Wing Card this trip and what I like about it is going around to the family outlet around the corner to make my cash withdrawals. I get served straight away, the lady always wants a chat and her kids come over and joke around as I don't think they get many foreign customers. I'd much rather give them my business than ANZ on the basis of the personal service, ( UK banks abandoned that long ago in favour of automation and increased profits or reduced losses as it turned out in my view). ANZ curtly informed me if their machine ate my card they wouldn't return it even if I gave them the card and security details.

So how would you phrase the question if I wanted to know your views on banking regulation?scobienz wrote:I don't know. I don't have any strong views on the subject. You do. In the UK I bank with the Nationwide which is a mutual building society but offers the full range of banking services and is owned by its membersSCC wrote:Jiminy Cricket!! By gosh that may have been the jolly ol case in the UK about 40 or 50 years ago, just before they made cash wages redundant. Since then, if you work legally or go through education, are unemployed or on low wages or just retired and on a pension you have no choice in the matter.scobienz wrote:They're banks. They're in business to make money by providing a service, a service which you are perfectly free to use or not, as you see fit. What do people expect?
Otherwise people would be burying it like in all the LDC's or, investing it in gold and then burying it
Appropriate banking regulation which straddles the fine line between protecting customers (from themselves) while at the same time enabling banks to make appropriate profits for their shareholders is a good thing.
Does that help RD?

No. I asked you what question you would have asked after you commented that I was vague. Instead you gave a response clearly showing you understood the original question. Are you pandering here?scobienz wrote:Appropriate banking regulation which straddles the fine line between protecting customers (from themselves) while at the same time enabling banks to make appropriate profits for their shareholders is a good thing.
