Cambo dia is my home but I work in the west. My job entails extensive travel in Australia and overseas. It allows me to work in Cambodia and email the work into the the office in Melbourne.
My agreement with work is that I will spend half my working time in Cambo (that is over 7 months of the year in theory with holidays and weekends), so with travel I will spend little time in Melbourne (45 nights at my apartment here in Melbourne in the first 6 months of this year .. a bloody expensive wardrobe).
However over the 12 week period mid April to July I will spend 5.5 weeks in Cambo/Asia, 0.5 weeks in Europe, 4 weeks in the USA (in two trips) 1 week in Australia (not the office) and 1 week at the office..
It is not ideal as I am away from my girlfriend for extended periods and away from where I want to be, but I still manage to make most of the Sharkey BBQ's and still earn a decent living that enables me to make the mortgage payments etc.
Few non NGO expats earn a decent living in Cambo, many get by, but few can save for a house or retirement whislt living and working there.
good luck,
LaudJohn

After many years of living in the west and trying to spend as much time as possible in Cambodia I finally got my company to relocate me to Asia. I work in banking, and I self taught myself about the Chinese/Vietnamese & Thai economies.
When a job came up in the emerging markets dept. of our HK office I easily beat all other candidates to the job.
So, now I live in Hong Kong & spend my weekends in Phnom Penh ( 3 hrs flying time via BKK on a Fri eve). - the best of both worlds -a western salary with a SEA weekend !
