**I'll start by saying I already know that there are loads of needlessly diagnosed children out there that give us real ADHD sufferers a bad name, so I wont go into debate about if it exists or not. Those of you who know what it's like though, and know the real benefits that we've experienced from meds like the infamous Ritalin/Adderall, this is who the thread is aimed at**
Skip to the bold for the "solution" that I've found works for me.
So, we know that you can't get Ritalin or Adderall here, period. Strattera too, nothing. You can get it in Thailand if you go back and forth BUT, you need to find a psychiatrist that can sympathize with you and be willing to prescribe it for you. Not only is it a sticky process (as it's a very strongly controlled substance in Thailand, after speaking to numerous ADHD Thai expats over email), but it's expensive too as you'll only be given a month supply (the max you can buy period), and you'd have to fly/bus over every month to refill. To some/most, that's not an option.
Some of you might wonder then, what help is there? I like many am ultra fed up already with the lack of knowledge on the matter in general (being called a hyperactive drug seeker, unmotivated, unwilling to take control of my life) etc etc, and am even more frustrated when the only means of functioning in society at a reasonably efficient level is not available in Cambodia. I don't like Ritalin or Adderall that much, but it's a love hate relationship. If I don't take it, I am all over the place and my office explodes into a state of chaos, and when I do take it, I only last for 4-6 days before I need a 2-3 day break because I get massive headaches.
Solution?
If loads of caffeine, smoking (yes, smoking helped immensely with my ADHD in my teens), or other methods have failed to provide a healthier focus environment, here's what I found worked for me.
Me: 170 cm, 58.5 kg (5'7" 129 lbs) for reference.
Meds taken before: Methyphenadate, short acting, 2x 15 mg a day. I know, very low dosage compared to others.
What works for me?
1) Piracetam /Nootropyl 4.8 grams (yes, 6 tablets of 800 mg) in the morning. Lasts me until night.
(available at many local pharmacies) for $11.50 for 45 capsules of 800 mg. It's a tiny bit expensive at 6 tablets, but that's the recommended dose so far according to many researchers. It's safe too so far for me (I am ultra sensitive to anything). Even certain food colorings give me allergies and headaches. See here for articles on dosage, some even took 17.8 grams per dose.
http://www.longecity.org/forum/topic/54 ... rams-dose/
Gingko Biloba 80 grams (2 caps of 40 once a day). Available all over the place, $7-8 per box of 30.
Multi Vitamin with B6 and B12 once a day, I forgot the exact dosage, but as long as B6 and B12 are present, that's what matters
Caffeine, I usually drink 4 cups of strong coffee in the morning. Your "dosage" will vary.
Here's what I've noticed. The Piracetam by itself seemed to stop my attention immediately switching from place to place. I am one where I will be doing something and then my attention almost shorts out and the next thing I know, I am already doing something else. I am not the "Oh look, shiny!" kind of person. For me it's work work work, wait, "Why am I holding something shiny in my hand?" Already done, attention already swtiched, no clue. Piracetam helped me do that less frequently.
Ginkgo helped me be able to direct my attention. I am one to often hyperfocus and get stuck on one thing without being able to redirect my attention at will. I can spend 12 hours reading a book I like and not notice. I've done it many times, and it's annoying. The Gingko helped me be able to take control of my focus and redirect it when needed.
The Vitamins, I am not sure exactly, but they seem to be recommended on a lot of ADHD help sites.
Coffee/caffeine, helps sort of mimic the little "spike" of energy you get from ADHD meds.
Now, with the combo, I've been able to manage things a little better and focus quite a bit easier on tasks needing to be done. I am still experimenting with dosages and such, but I've noticed a significant but not immense change in me. It's definitely no ADHD stimulant med, but it has helped a lot. It also seems to carry very few if any side effects. I am very susceptible to headaches and rashes with any sort of med, and these have cause me none of that.
So, anyway, I know that ADHD likely only effects one in a thousand or so people, despite what surveys suggest. I've met a lot of people who claim to have been or are ADHD, but there are very few that I've met that really show they are like myself in terms of having true symptoms. Many people are hyperactive and were probably given meds by frustrated parents, but are not really ADHD sufferers. But to those of us who really know what it 's like, and know the frustration associated with being this way, I hope you can find this info useful and I hope it works for you like it's worked (sort of) for me.
Take care, and hang in there!

EDIT: Nov. 03
I adjust the dose of Piracetam up to 6.4 grams a day (two 3.2 gram doses), and 120 mg of Gingko Biloba. I also stopped taking the Vitamin B supplement (because it was giving me the jitters, not the coffee), and the jitters have calmed down.
So, heads up, I am guessing the B vitamin isn't necessary every day, only when you need it. Also, the Piracetam I'm seeming to develop a slow tolerance of, so I am thinking of backing off and seeing what happens after a few days. The Gingko on the other hand I haven't noticed a tapering off effect yet.
Total time using this "treatment" is about 4 weeks now.

Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil?
I've been taking a tablespoon a day for energy and health for a while and am feeling good. I use it to clean my mouth and stop my chronic nighttime dry mouth(oil pulling) and I use it on my skin and in my hair.
There's been a bit of press recently regarding its use by some people to aid in the treatment of alzheimers.
There are also some who use it to aid ADHD:

There is more out there on Google for coconut oil ADHD.

have you tried taking glutamate ?
the stuff that helps you, would seem to ask for it... perhaps
if you are around PP, you can have a test dose of black bombs... to compare with the nootropyl...
think, you might like it...

whats your blood type ?
neither rh negative, nor O ?
...just guessing...
i think it could have to do with the outcome of some symptoms, but its not really causative of anything (too much)...

Rh negative, but no O. Not too hot on the idea of black bombs though.

Thanks @AK87 ! I'm a Dutch psychiatrist working in Sunrise Mental Clinic in Phnom Penh. Recently I have referred two of my PP patients with ADHD to the Department of Psychiatry at Bunglumrad Hospital in Bangkok. I have asked my colleague(s) in Bunglumrad to prescribe my patients Ritalin/Concerta at a daily maximum dose (Ritaline 10mg, 4 times 3 tablets and Concerta 64mg, 1 time per day 2 tablets) for a period of 3 months....and that I would adjust the daily dose in Phnom Penh. Probably max half of the dose I have asked them to prescribe, will be sufficient. My patients are not back yet....so I don't know if they have received the Ritalin and Concerta amount I have asked for. If this works...it would mean a visit to BKK max once every 6 months. BTW....I didn't know about the Nootropil option...thanks! I have checked the literature....it seems to work for (some) patients with ADHD.

This may be considered flip, but I did know a guy once who would blow lines of a mixture of crushed ritalin and, as he would call it, yayo, and he claimed it revolutionized his ability to concentrate. Obviously not for kids.
They're probably locked up in Koh Kong on smuggling charges.BenvandenBussche wrote: My patients are not back yet........

I think it's so that you can "stock up" over here and not make monthly trips.
I've always liked this site because of the ADHD "vibe" I get when reading posts(or reading between the lines). Thirsty drinkers, Risk takers and Adventures are all "self" medicating to calm our/their brains down to accomplish tasks others may find easier to stay on track. But once we are in the Zone to hyper focus, stuff gets done quickly.
It was once explained to me as sitting in a supercar with revs at the red line and no clutch. Lots of noise but no action.
I wonder why a low dose of local Yama/Meth could not be taken(orally) without becoming unhinged? (btw my script is 10MG + 20MG SR, Ritalin)

The Earth is degenerating these days. Bribery and corruption abound.

There are two approaches to a response here:Milord wrote: I wonder why a low dose of local Yama/Meth could not be taken(orally) without becoming unhinged? (btw my script is 10MG + 20MG SR, Ritalin)
