(Edit note: Edited three times out of sheer drunken grammatic frivolity, perhaps to be edited again, for flare, with or without notice, on impulse.)Since the beginning of our trip, we’ve been involved in what has felt like a continuous crime wave. The country that I once regarded as rough in some places but largely peaceful has turned into a place that leaves me feeling unnerved and uncomfortable.

Adventurous Kate becomes Travelling Mark
Adventurous Kate, who back in 2010 wrote of the joys of getting taken by a hooker at Howie's and hanging out with beggar kids on the beaches of Sihanoukville, has found the Cambodia of 2013 a changed place, no longer a backpackers paradise but now a 'continuous crime wave', where offenses against tourists are regular fare and it is occasionally necessary to pummel street children. Unlike 2010, Kate discovered today's Cambodia awash in crime on her most recent visit, not unlike that described by Travelling Mark who warned of machete wielding mobs in Phnom Penh and rabid dogs feasting on the flesh of murdered tourists at Angkor, though perhaps not quite as dramatic. Still, on Kate's observation, Cambodia has changed significantly since 2010, and not for the better. It's always better back in the old days...really.

Who the fuck calls themselves Adventurous Kate.
Another boring tedious middle class kid thinking she's something special. Adventurous Kate would be better off called Sanctimonious Bitch.

WTF? How can he make something up like that? This type of bollocks is what all those Khmerican ladies should get worked up about, not about Gavinmac's witty 7 reasons articles!Just about every Cambodian girl you ever get a chance to talk to has either already been raped or came this close to it. Shockingly, true Cambodian won’t shy away from any girl, regardless how young. Sexual abuse of children by Cambodian males is an every day thing and that also involves children who can’t even speak or talk yet.

We all have been closed to being raped, just as we all have been closed one day of being hit by a car on the road.
Being closed doesn't mean with the underwear on the knees and seconds before getting fucked. Just mean "could have happened"

What Twats! But agreed: if their BS articles keep the banana-pancake-eating crowd away then they are serving a (small) purpose.

Is it wrong to admit I made myself banana pancakes for breakfast this morning?

On top of touts and scam artists whose life purpose is to rip people off, Angkor is also full of extremely dangerous, violent criminals. Thousands of them possess weapons and explosive they’ve owned since the days of Khmer Rouge. The owners are for the most part former Khmer Rouge killing machines recruited as young teenagers to kill people on daily basis. They are used to drawing blood and seeing people die by their hand. They’ve been doing that since they were 14 and always got away with it. Little has changed since Khmer Rouge was suppressed. New, more dangerous form of it rules Cambodia today but for you as a foreigner, the most disconcerting part are the killing recruits who are nowadays in their forties and fifties and are as blood thirsty as they were when they were enlisted to kill.

Yeah, it's really changed in the last 3 years, it's like District 9 now.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
"and then it happened — our good friend S. was in a tuk-tuk with a friend (incidentally, his friend was one of my readers) and a motorbike driver reached in and pulled out S.’s friend’s bag. S. later got a phone call from the military police. The thief was probably going to die, they told him, because he didn’t have health insurance and couldn’t afford healthcare. S. was shocked by this news, because the thief didn’t appear to be gravely injured. He now thinks that the thief was beaten more brutally after he left. The thief eventually died. S. was featured on the news in Cambodia as the man who killed a bag snatcher. He was getting recognized on the street as far away as Siem Reap."
So her friend chased & beat a thief who then died?
Did I miss this is the news????
