SLAA Cambodia
Dear Khmer440
I'm writing this post (with permission from the Admin) to introduce SLAA Cambodia.
The objective is to raise awareness in the community of the group and to provide a contact point for any questions people may have.
While the subject matter might normally obtain a fair degree of smart-arse comments, I can assure you that for those who have a problem the matter is entirely serious, with sometimes dire physical, social and emotional consequences if left unchecked.
If this post generates questions of a serious nature then I will be happy to answer them here on the forum, or you can PM me if you prefer.
What is SLAA?
Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous, or S.L.A.A., is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition oriented Fellowship based on the model pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous.
S.L.A.A. is open to anyone who knows or thinks they have a problem with sex addiction, love addiction, romantic obsession, co-dependent relationships, fantasy addiction and/or sexual, social and emotional anorexia.
More information on SLAA can be found at the Group's worldwide website:
http://www.slaafws.org/slaaforme
Here you will find a wealth of information as well as a self diagnosis test.
If you think you have a problem or wish to know more then please visit the website.
If you have questions about SLAA or SLAA in Cambodia (meetings are held in Phnom Penh) or wish to join a meeting then please contact the email address below:
[email protected]
SLAA Cambodia is an anonymous group and recommends that if you do email that you use a newly created or anonymous email address that will not tie back to your work or personal life.
Thanks

I can understand the need for support groups for people with dangerous, body-ravaging addictions such as alcohol or drugs that badly affect the lives of themselves and those around them. But if you're addicted to something that's fun, healthy and doesn't cause anyone any harm, then what's the problem?
And the desired outcome of drug and alcohol 12 step programs is abstinence and sobriety; if the outcome here is abstinence from sex and love then please, please kill me now. I'd be half tempted to attend one of the meetings just to laugh at all the pussies that show up.

I don't think it's the same crowd. The first ones were 'a group of Christians' whereas this latest incarnation of people who want to kill your sex life appear to be sectarian (at least on their website).Mèo Đen wrote:Deja Vu we have been through this before http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... +addiction

Correct, there is no affiliation between SLAA and the other group that was referred to.

Gonorrhea isn't fun (it's such an ugly word). Chlamydia (nice sounding) isn't all too healthy either. Then there's crabs, genital warts, and so on. The more serious stuff...HIV.
Sex education is lacking in Cambodia. Certain (s)expats also seem to require "refresher" lessons.
Correct me if i'm wrong...

If their behaviour isn't causing any harm then I would agree - there's not a problem and often that's the case. The "problem" arises when things get out of one's control and/or harm starts. Yes, sex is fun and healthy - but it is clearly evident that there are plenty of harmful sexual behaviours out there that do cause oneself and others harm. If someone is harming themselves or others through compulsive behaviour I would suggest that they need to consider their options for getting help.
You are also correct that sobriety is the desired outcome of a 12 step program. That does not necessarily mean abstinence though in the context of sex. I'm reluctant to generate a stereotype by giving an example but let's say a person is a serial cheat, having multiple affairs - harming their marriage, their family and their professional reputation. Sobriety in that case might be defined as not cheating and only having sex inside the marriage. It doesn't mean abstinence though.

You're wrong. This group has nothing to do with sex education.0zirC wrote:BURLESQUE@SDHHOTEL wrote:I can understand the need for support groups for people with dangerous, body-ravaging addictions such as alcohol or drugs that badly affect the lives of themselves and those around them. Highlighted for drama?
I appreciate it that you visited the website and informed yourself but your blanket generalisation is well wide of the mark.
It's not about killing anyone's sex life. There are no absolutes like that as everyone is different as are their patterns of behaviour.
