Am I being delusional or have I gone local?
Am I being delusional or have I gone local?
I've spent many a winter here in PP and I have never been this cold for this long. In fact, never before have I:
a) turned off the fans for the entire day and night
b) wore thick socks to bed and 3 layers of t-shirts
c) wore long underwear under my one sheet
d) shivered violently on my scooter at night
e) wore an undershirt to take a walk on the riverside
I still refuse to wear long pants thankfully (like a proper adult - I know, I know).
Am I wrong here all you "old hands" who have spent a lot of winters here? Or has my skin gone thin? I have been in SE Asia uninterrupted for over 18 months straight which is unusual for me.
Don't get me wrong - I love it! I wish it was like this each and every day here. No sweating is absolutely wonderful. This last 6 weeks has been exactly like the gorgeous autumn in Hanoi, when there is no better place to be on the planet (Nov. - Dec.). Delicious.

I have heard from many long term residents and locals - it is the coldest they remember.

Good. I thought that maybe it was just me. I'm even using Chapstick for my chapped lips which never happened before. Again, it's great!! I dread the coming heat wave (as always).
Let's enjoy the Big Chill while it lasts, eh?
Oh...does it mean this is The End of Days? Is Jesus with that big beard on his way back into town? The world is truly ending and I'm so glad I got 6 decades in beforehand....so it goes.

Colder this year... first time I've actually made a bed - with sheets and all that - in nearly 10 years.
More mozzies about too - a hell of a lot more.

Toughen up for Jesus? Or? As I emphatically said, I like the cold, Rice Boy!ricecakes wrote:Toughen the fuck up
Now Jesus coming back? How does one toughen up for that, pray tell?

Coldest in decades they say, although this morning was warmer than it has been.
The winter of 1998 (or was it 1999?) was as cold but not as prolonged as this spell. There were a few deaths of homeless on the riverside from exposure then, as I recall. The late Tom Maher of Tom's Irish Pub on Street 63 made a big vat of Irish stew and I remember a bunch of us hunched over steaming bowls of the delicious stuff at the bar, relishing the flavor and warmth. I reckon in a week or so we'll be complaining about the heat as usual. However, it has been a nice break and the electric bills should be a bit lower.

"waist deep in the Big Muddy and the big fool says to push on."
in wearing sandals in 19 degree Fahrenheit. toughen up!
I really thought this thread was going to be about your refusal to buy imports.
I don't get it. Cold? There's no ice on the ground and I can't see my breath.
Seriously though, I find it beautiful weather.
