Filipinos Abducting/Robbing/Scamming Westerners in PP?
There is a scam/abduction/robbery setup of some kind going on in PP that I have never heard any other person mentioned, yet the predators target me frequently. I am wondering if anyone on here has experienced the same or has an explanation of these activities. I shall explain.
Over the course of the last 4 years I have been approached by various Filipinos, usually in a place where tourists can be found, and they will appear overtly friendly, comment on something you are wearing or your hairstyle (they always come up and tell me I have a nice beard), smiles and all, and begin asking questions about where you are from, how long you been here, they always want to shake your hand, sometimes ask you to sit and talk for a while.
The first few times it happened, I just assumed they were from some religious sect looking to convert me or wanted some donation, nothing unusual, and I just gave them a "have a nice day" and walked off after the small chat. After the 4th or 5th time I started to really wonder, "what in the world is up with these people?"
The most recent before today happened in Sorya Mall coming out of Lucky. The guy comment I had nice a nice beard and started asking questions right away. I countered him with questions and he got defensive and raised his voice asking me if I trying to cause trouble with him. Now I know something is not right with these guys.
Today, I was walking along the riverside heading back to my hotel when a Filipino on a moto sees me, turns around comes right beside me. First thing he says, "Wow you got a nice beard." So I play along with all of his questions, tell him I am from Switzerland here on vacation only a two days, after a few minutes he says his sister is headed to work in Switzerland and he wants me to meet her. He even calls some girl on the phone and wants me to talk to her. He says we can just go meet her. I agree to go with him and he tells me to hop on his moto. He calls someone on the phone and moves forward to let me get on, and then I took his picture.
He sped right off, no good-bye, no words, just gone quick.
Every time it has happened to me in PP, but once in HCMC as well.
So, does anyone else have any similar experiences as this?
If not I am going to start believing in that the Filipino are personally conspiring against me. I will check this out with a Filipino buddy as well when he returns.
I will attempt to post his photo here: http://i.imgur.com/Evs4Vby.jpg

This has been mentioned many times here and similar gangs work all across SEA. Had you gone with them you would have been enticed into playing cards, lost quickly and been marched to the ATM.
I'm regularly approached by the same woman operating up near Hong Kong Building. It amazes me that she never remembers me as the guy who tells her to fuck off every couple of weeks.
The OP can't upload the pic properly as a new poster, so I'll post in here for him. It could be good sport to use this thread to post as many pics of them as possible

I believe one version of the scam is that you're told they have a fail proof way of winning at cards and you're invited to play. It soon turns nasty. The internet is full of accounts of this sort of thing involving Filipino gangs.
I live by a golden rule: nothing ever comes good from random people initiating conversations with you as you're walking around minding your own business.

The game is rigged and refusing to pay might cause your spleen to be removed.not_abducted wrote:Play cards??? Thats it??? Yep, I know that asshole in the picture. See him around everywhere always with the same lame story about the sister he wants you to meet. Good on the OP to snap a photo of him, everyone should do likewise. Would love to see someone throw him a beating.
Ultimately they are harmless if you just ignore them but sometimes I can't help myself fucking with them.

In other Asian capitals for some reason they always had a female relative working as a nurse in my home town/country. Which obviously creates an instant bond of trust and friendship......NOT

I told him to wait a minute, because I need to call my brother and make sure I have enough time to go with him. When he realized I was taking his photo he turned and jetted.
