Lies, lies and Aeon Mall
Lies, lies and Aeon Mall
Pedro Milladino takes his family to Aeon Mall (much against his better judgement) and is distinctly unimpressed with the experience.

Mmm'kay. I'm more interested in this story - tell us more, Pedro
A few weeks ago, a restaurant meal doubled in price, as the staff changed the menu with Tippex, as I was eating.
I came, I argued, I'm out

Ha ha, real well written piece. I like the Aeon mall on a quiet weekday that is, a quick Whopper, few items in the supermarket and some of the bread available there attracts me. Parking there is easy too. Can't see anything bad for someone to use this as a tax write off.

Nice piece, as was the Nathan Thompson one.
So in summary ;
1) Let the other half handle the shopping inside whilst you sit outside drinking beer.
2) Don't go to weddings unless it's absolutely unavoidable.
3) Don't be too friendly with the annoying street kids.
You won't find this kinda shit in the Lonely Planet.

LOL . . mate, come on. It's only got 3 floors and it's hardly a huge space. You can walk around the entire place in 15 minutes.
I don't mind Aeon, and certainly don't share PM's antipathy towards it. It's a short walk from my apartment, and it's nice to chill out for an hour or so. Also, i hear good things about the ice rink and cinema, plus there's a nice little Singapore place that serves great laksa.
What is there to dislike?
It does seem a bit empty though, and needs a few more non-Japanese stores.

Maybe i was just off colour that day but i walked around the bloody place 3 or 4 times and kept coming back to where i started,i think my worse mistake was asking the information desk for information, and than to make it worse ,asked the store staff for directions, anyway horses for courses,i hate shopping anywayscobienz wrote:tarariverboat wrote:i went there a month or so back, got lost,i mean bugger you need a compass or a GPS,the store maps make no sense, the whole building makes no sense, and could not find what i was looking for,the staff where useless, the place to me just did not make sense, not many people there.i never say never but NEVER again.

MrsC has fallen for a small shop there that sells everything for $1:60 or so, Daiso, or Daizu or somesuch.
She loves it.
It's an arts and crafts nightmare.
However, the shop sells the first bicycle puncture repair kits I've seen here, and has extra tubes of rubber cement as a bonus. They're like the proper ones I used to get as a kid - sandpaper, glue, patches, chalk, yadayada.
If you're trapped into the place, that's a focal point for you. An out of the gloom. Find them. Find the extra glue. She'll think you're really shopping. It works. And you'll have a puncture repair kit or two.

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Brother, no more giant spliffs for you before going to the mall...if you were lost there - you would never ever emerge from the weekend market in BKK...now that's truly huge and confusing...but fun too..tarariverboat wrote:Maybe i was just off colour that day but i walked around the bloody place 3 or 4 times and kept coming back to where i started,i think my worse mistake was asking the information desk for information, and than to make it worse ,asked the store staff for directions, anyway horses for courses,i hate shopping anywayscobienz wrote:tarariverboat wrote:i went there a month or so back, got lost,i mean bugger you need a compass or a GPS,the store maps make no sense, the whole building makes no sense, and could not find what i was looking for,the staff where useless, the place to me just did not make sense, not many people there.i never say never but NEVER again.

A mate dragged me there (after vowing I would never ever enter their doors - for fear of seeing scoby mid-bite with a whopper) - why?
To indulge in this Jap cream-puff thing. And I gotta say it was uber-delish - they squirt the 3000 calorie custard poison into the puffy pastry in front of you. Had to swim double laps for the entire week after that...was worth it - the cream-puff was - the mall? Meh....
I love fish and chips with vinegar in newspaper!!!

Aeon's great ... all that's missing is a guesthouse and I'd live there.
It is basically a rectangle with a few floors. How can you get lost in a rectangle?tarariverboat wrote:i went there a month or so back, got lost,i mean bugger you need a compass or a GPS,the store maps make no sense, the whole building makes no sense, and could not find what i was looking for,the staff where useless, the place to me just did not make sense, not many people there.i never say never but NEVER again.
People who hate malls are the people who think its cool to live, smell and look like a tramp
