Oaths of lightning
Oaths of lightning
Is there another country in the world where such nonsense would be:
1) Made by a political leader?
2) Be considered major political news.
Oaths of lightning, FFS. If I understand this correctly, Rainsy is being asked to stand up and say that proof of the 2013 election being dodgy would be that he would be struck by lightning, or killed with bullets?
The mind boggles at the sheer and utter ridiculousness of such an idea.

Planet Cambodia Scooby. It is a parallel dimension in and of itself.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
And now Mr. Rainsy, I'd like to present you with this 10 meter tall metal hat.
Reckless driving cucumber - 成
I don't see this to be much different to swearing the oath "I swear that the evidence that I shall give, shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God" Up to the mid 16th century there was no codified law for perjury as it was assumed God would "smite you down"if you lied on the bible. I see the oath of lightning as a non Christian equivalent of the above oath. Both are appealing to some supernatural occurrence to happen if truthfulness is not abided by.

If you want to understand why he would say such a thing, ask yourself who is he talking to and why is he saying it. He's not looking for proof for himself or Rainsy, he is talking to his constituents, i.e. people who take 'bullet-oaths' to guarantee who they will vote for. HS knows his crowd very well, and we are not part of it.
Not exactly the same divine smite.... But Malaysia would be a contender: http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... =9&t=49710scobienz wrote:Is there another country in the world where such nonsense would be:

his comments to the royal bulls ceremony (or whatever it's called), which predicts the coming year's harvest of the country's dominant economic sector, show that he doesn't believe in this bollocks, which means exactly what LTO saidLTO wrote:If you want to understand why he would say such a thing, ask yourself who is he talking to and why is he saying it. And yet ........
HE swore that if the CPP really stole the 2013 election, its members would die. Hours later, party president Chea Sim was dead.
