I have no desire to see an innocent man in prison but like many find it hard to sympathize with someone who's own actions but him in the line of fire. He was a known convicted pedophile who came to Cambodia to work with kids for what purpose? At the very least he was breaking a restraining order that prevented him from doing this in the UK and would have been subject to severe sentencing there. Moreover, unlike many victims of the kangaroo courts here, he shares responsibility with the embassy, human rights NGOs etc for this miscarriage.scobienz wrote:James Ricketson is reporting that David Fletcher "will be dead" in two weeks time, for those of you interested. He says Fletcher intends to commit suicide following the refusal of the Cambodian Courts to grant him a retrial last week. I know very little about David, and don't have much interest in his case except to know about his actual convictions in the UK, which would prevent me from ever wanting to know him personally, but I do have some empathy for the guy. The conviction does look tenuous to me.
James is also reporting that the new owner of 440 refuses to allow him onto the forum to discuss it. Not entirely true. I have told him he is free to rejoin, providing he abides the forum rules of not revealing the real life identities of current 440 members.

Interesting. Since we do have a second source and know the details of this claim, Ricketson has provided an example of just how he massages the truth. "To rejoin he must follow the rules" becomes "refuses to allow him to rejoin." As you said, "not entirely true." I can only assume his presentation of the 'facts" about Fletch and this case have been similarly skewed.scobienz wrote:...James is also reporting that the new owner of 440 refuses to allow him onto the forum to discuss it. What a miserable outlook. The embassy of a guys home country is responsible?? Should they have tied him down to his country of birth?Red DRAGON wrote:I have no desire to see an innocent man in prison but like many find it hard to sympathize with someone who's own actions but him in the line of fire. Update from the civilized world: Freedom of travel is a well established human right. If America ever installs exit checks in airports and border crossings like dictatorships around the world do it would sound the death knell of our hallowed democracy.
If you're reading this you made poor life choices.

You mad cause you lost your freedoms long ago bro. When the government is the only armed body you're about as "free" as a prisoner under armed guard.metaleap wrote:"hollowed", more likesplinter wrote:it would sound the death knell of our hallowed democracy.

[Edited to make clear this is a reply to his Lordship's post]
We have no rules about discussing former members, that's true. However, in the exchange I had with Mr Ricketson he referred to exposing all the 440 players in this saga. I said I would only allow him to post if he respected members' identity. He expressly asked if that included the former owner and I said it include KiR. At the time KiR was a member, so I feel obliged to stick by that call.
As a result of my (perhaps misplaced) respect for KiR's identity - which is known by pretty much every expat in Phnom Penh and easily found on James' blog - James has promised to name and shame me in his upcoming book.
Which is nice of him.

Is there any truth to the rumour that follicly-challenged mullet head Ricketson is an utter twat?
