Sound business advice from a business mogul following a request about opening/running a bar in PP:
"Firstly you sound just like the kind of bar owner I like... dumb.
You obviously don't have a clue or just don't have the business acumen to understand why what you said was so stupid... but please, buy your bar.. spend some money on the refurbishment and I will pop round in 6 months with a few shekels to help you move away from your failing venture..."
Conclusion: we want everyone in PP who has the balls to invest in a bar in PP to fail so that in X months time there are no bars left and the place becomes like Kabul.

Sharky Bar was one of the first bars I ever went to in Cambodia, mainly because there were only a few other bars around town that weren't just tiny dives. I haven't been there in ages, I used to like the desk in the hallway where you had to leave your guns/grenades etc. The Lido, does anyone have amusing tales of there?

Been in sharkys once back in 2010 .
Barang customers were kinda miserable looking in general I felt like the new kid in school vibe going there alone for the first time.

True story.
My old company used to be a subcontractor to the US State Dept and on their yearly visit to Cambodia the State Dept rep couldn't be bothered to drive out to my workshop in Toul Kork so we met at Sharky's instead. This meeting ended with me signing a 2 Million USD contract on the balcony in Sharky's.
I tired to get the deaf dumb girl to act as a witness to the signatories, but the State Dept rep said no way and the State Dept is the most reputable agency within the best nation in the world. Oh the irony.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Why are people assuming it's for sale because it's in trouble. It seems to be doing very well now that Mike has got the new management team in place. It's busy most night once the music starts, and it's hard to think of a comparable music venue in town.
Those who know Mike know he's been sick for a while and spends a lot of time back and forth to the US for treatment. I suspect he just wants to retire gracefully.
(If it's for sale, that is - $100k would be a steal, depending on lease, especially when you compare it to some of the ridiculous prices wanted for empty hostess bars. The latest one on offer is Night Moves, for $22k. That's likely $1k for each beer they've sold in the last year).

The kitchen is now in shambles imo. Orders take forever, and that's if they ever make it to you at all. Shame because the food used to be pretty good and came out promptly. I used to go fairly regularly, but I've only been in a few times in the last 4 years. Demographic have certainly changed the place a lot, so it has lost some of the edgy tavern feeling it had. I'm personally not a big fan of the music that's played there, so there's no real reason for me to go there unless the odd time I get invited by a friend. It still has a nice feel to it, decor-wise. It's not a total dive, but isn't a pretentious upscale place either. Still one of the most spacious layouts as well. Probably worth the asking price, depending on what the lease is. One has to feel bad for the neighbours who haven't had a good night's sleep in over 15 years ...
