If it wasn't on the front page of the Cambodia Daily, I'd agree. But it's carved in stone now.sniper_m4 wrote:My foriegn friends and my khmer family all say it will blow over and to forget about it...

Does the Cambodia Daily have 63 pages...ken svay wrote:Good luck to you Eric, but don't waste money on lawyers. Surely you should demand a written apology from the Embassy and APLE and ask the media to run a retraction but it's always in small print at the bottom of page 63.

I'd be more worried about 2021 when your name gets googled and some old crusty GavinMac v2.0 finds the story.sniper_m4 wrote:My foriegn friends and my khmer family all say it will blow over and to forget about it. I certainly hope so. I do have to say this has been one hell of an unlucky year. 2016 sucks balls.

I would ask the Daily for a public apology (same size and front page) and an explanation regarding the mixup and lack of thorough journalism (as it was already apparent here that there were some holes in the whole story BEFORE the Daily published that article). As others say, this article is online forever now. However, most won't think to check and go through an internet forum thread to find out the truth. You likely won't want to have to explain yourself all the time either. The Daily owes you a very public apology. Demand it. End of story.sniper_m4 wrote:My foriegn friends and my khmer family all say it will blow over and to forget about it. I certainly hope so. Certainly not APLE, they must have been following him for quite a while. Seems they didn't do any checks on him in all that time. What with the Facebook pages and the age difference. Looks like they were just following orders, so didn't give it a second thought?LTO wrote:Maybe I missed it, but who was it exactly who realized they had made a mistake and ordered sniper released after the initial arrest? The Cambodian police? The American embassy or FBI?

I have heard it can be worse for getting employment here if it's on Khmer Facebook. Is it on Khmer Facebook? If it wasn't on the front page of the Cambodia Daily, I'd agree. But it's carved in stone now.

Then again , if sniper's info on APLE following a guy from Thailand is true, could it be APLE driven all along?
It's odd.
Yes, I understand why APLE would be interested, and investigated him. And I suspect you are right about the source of the tip-off to APLE. But I still find APLE's comment in the Daily to be a bit curious, in which they seem to imply that they barely know who he is.scobienz wrote:In fairness to APLE you can understand why they would have been interested in Eric given his name, and let's be candid here. They didn't start following him of their own volition. The sex offender Erdman guy is a small time offender compared to Ceulen for example. They would have been tipped off and prompted to follow Eric by someone, and the only logical conclusion was that it was someone in the US Embassy.
Why else would the Oregan offender be on APLE's watch list?
Khoem Vando, deputy director of field operations for anti-pedophile NGO Action Pour Les Enfants, said that he was aware of an arrest, but knew little else about the case.
“I know that the immigration police arrested him, and I heard that he was involved in abusing children in the U.S.,” he said.
