And another longtime lurker here. I posted on the other forum for a while but it's too slow for my liking. It can be pretty boisterous here but it's much more entertaining and informative overall. You guys are nuts.

Hi all, 8 years away from the kingdom of wonder, and wow how things have developed!
I went back to my old land lady's house just north of Toul Kork to see about renting a place. Before the house was surrounded by water melon fields , now only to find it has been completely built over with paved roads and all the green lanes are gone.
She still has nice flats to rent , but I guess I will have to move out further to get that balance between city and rural life!
Anyway I am looking forward to meeting other forum members soon , and to be shown the PP ropes again! I think I have forgotten a fair bit.
PS I tried to use my old username 'That Guy' but is was not recognised!

Hi All,
I am a newbie here. Nice to meet you all.
P.s I started to like to gamble, so aside from Nagaworld and other Casinos in Bavet where can I go for gambling.

There are plenty of casinos in Sihanoukville and border towns like Poipet, GG. If you're in town for a while you will also stumble across hush hush expat poker games.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

That's great, nice man!
I have to check that out. I heard Sihanoukville is not so good. Poipet never heard of that.
Last week I went on the southeast of Cambodia and I passed by in a casino hotel in Svay Rieng just off the border of Vietnam, I guess mochoa border.
If I'm not mistaken the name of the place is luck Ruby Casino and Resort, do you think it's legit and have the license to operate?
It's the only casino in that area but many people are coming in and out.

I am the new guy, 60 , white, divorced, unemployed and living in my parents basement. But I got a plan.
I'm new here. I visited Cambodia once, rented a car and drove around for a few weeks (Phnom Penh, Sihanoukeville, Battambang, Siem Reap). Side story: I got extremely sick and had to go to a clinic for a few days of IV. It cost me around $500.
Anyway, I'm interested in moving to Cambodia in roughly 6-12 months. I work in IT, have enough saved up to live 1-2 years in the kingdom, and am planning to work on open source software and day trade while I'm there. I'm continuing to save up so that I have more money for investments / living in Cambodia.
It could end up just being a one year break from my career. But I'm hoping to find something interesting to do and stay longer. Some ideas I have:
- Open a specialty coffee shop. (Probably not.)
- Find another software developer (local or foreign, someone in Cambodia) who is interested in developing something.
Some plans:
- Learn Khmer, especially reading and writing.
- Make friends.
Thanks for reading.

Out of curiosity, how much do you think is enough to live here for 1-2 years?
