Khmer BBQ - king of unhealthy eating
Missus organized a party a few nights ago. When to the local joint and had Khmer BBQ. Basically a griddle on top of a portable stove. The unhealthy part came next. Each griddle came with a small block of lard and a small block of butter. And trays of assorted meats, and one tiny pItiful tray of vegetables.
One of the girls at the party smeared the entire block of lard all over the cook plate. The block of butter came in a small dish. Said dish was placed in the center of the grill and allowed to melt into a soup. Then every meat was dipped into this butter and placed on the grill. While the meat is grilling, more butter sauce is placed on the meat. Oh, I had the pleasure of inhaling thick clouds of smoke.
Seems like a recipe for indigestion and a fast track to heart disease and other problems.
Any thoughts? Are there worse foods on the Khmer menu?

Don't worry, be happy.
Generally speaking I think lard is healthier for most people than the filthy oils that Khmers typically cook with. Personally I stopped using vegetable oils when I moved from Cambodia in favor of ghee (my favorite) , coconut oil, and beef tallow. Gotta have veg though, brussel sprouts caramelized in ghee is the shit.

Why would lard be unhealthy? Humans need energy, that can be found in lard to function. The unhealthy thing is to eat to much. You could rather call it a natural way of cooking instead of using other methods invented by man like pressed oil instead of taking something that is ready directly from the animal.
So please mr healty how do you cook your food? On a iron pan without anything? When you done cooking you scrape of the burnt in black meat and drown it all i ketchup to be able to even get it in your mouth?
Another thought is that we usually cut away all/most of the fat on our meat. And you go bananas coz you find a little bit of it on a bbq?
And who the fuck drink the stock from the bbq anyway? You cook your food in it and take it out, maby with a little bit of the stock. If you poored it in a glas and drank it i have to say you probable got tricked.
Last word...A little fucking lard on a shared bqq (that you DONT DRINK) is not the cause of obesity. Its just a way of cooking like the oil in my kitchen that contain 800kcal/100g (about same as lard, right?). But thats ok right? Cook the food in a little but of oil. But god fucking help us if its lard.

This whole idea of all fats being bad for you has long been debunked; can't live without (non-saturated) fat (and everything would taste pretty shite without it).
You need to worry a lot more about trans fats in things like cookies and crackers.

Exactly. Don't be dissin them fats. The notion that a "low fat" diet is healthiest is stuffed with misconceptions. I'd bought into that out-dated idea and couldn't figure out why it was so difficult to lose weight, and why it was even more difficult to keep it off. Once I discovered the benefits of a ketogenic diet, I was able to, over the course of 3 months, lose 75 pounds (and a litany of weight related ailments) through a high fat, VLC diet. My body fat percentage is now 16% (measure bi-weekly on a Seca Body Composition Analyzer). My muscle loss was initially less than 1% and now i've realized a muscle gain of 5% and even though I'm over 50, I can jump and sprint like a teenager and I can still bench 260. I've maintained the weight for almost 2 years, I've had to completely replace my wardrobe and my waist and shirt size is the same as it was when I was 19 years old.Hanno wrote:This whole idea of all fats being bad for you has long been debunked; can't live without (non-saturated) fat (and everything would taste pretty shite without it).

Good on you Walter. A ketogenic diet probably wouldn't work for me as I need the carbs to sustain long-distance running but I certainly do not eschew fat. Long-term studies seem to suggest that people that stick to low-fat products actually gain weight over time....

Nonsense, I'm a regular exerciser (have been all my life) & am in pretty good shape - I am nowhere near 50 and I can't sprint like I could 20 years ago, not even close.Walter White wrote: even though I'm over 50, I can jump and sprint like a teenager
Father Time takes a toll on all of us, we can take steps to minimise it but we can't stop it. Quit lying to yourself.

That's one possible, credible explanation.Hanno wrote:If WW was 75 pounds overweight as a teenager?Khmerhamster wrote:Nonsense, I'm a regular exerciser (have been all my life) & am in pretty good shape - I am nowhere near 50 and I can't sprint like I could 20 years ago, not even close.Walter White wrote: even though I'm over 50, I can jump and sprint like a teenager

I was in excellent condition up until my mid-40s, before I blew out my thyroid during chemo. I was never overweight as a child. In fact, I was on the school track team: 4x400 relay, 200 sprints and the x-country team .Hanno wrote:If WW was 75 pounds overweight as a teenager?Khmerhamster wrote:Nonsense, I'm a regular exerciser (have been all my life) & am in pretty good shape - I am nowhere near 50 and I can't sprint like I could 20 years ago, not even close.Walter White wrote: even though I'm over 50, I can jump and sprint like a teenager

Yes, I can still sprint with no problems. On concrete or on a track, I've done both recently. I was just showing off for my son and daughter the other day. Felt great, too. I can still do one-armed push-ups, and I can do a standing jump up onto a table, so go fuck yourself if you don't believe me. I do feel some arthritis in my fingers, but that only flares up when I eat processed wheat or too many carbs, which, for me, seems to cause inflammation. 2 years ago, I was a bloated fat fuck with pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, neuropathy and a litany of weird ailments, mostly due to inflammation. I took a half-dozen medications every day and I felt like shit. Today, I take a single thyroid pill and a multi-vitamin. It was so easy to lose all of that weight, once I knew how. Being fat and out of shape is a lonely, sad condition. I feel bad for anyone suffering from obesity, because I'll always remember how bad it felt and how powerless I felt over the condition. I was powerless because most of the information I had about diet and weight-loss was wrong.

I guess FC Barcelona will soon be head-hunting you so you can advise them how they can keep Messi playing into his 50's. Why do professional sportsmen (with all their sports science and nutrition) stop in their mid 30's if it is so simple?Walter White wrote:I was in excellent condition up until my mid-40s, before I blew out my thyroid during chemo. I don't doubt you are probably in good shape, but I've never seen anyone in their fifties who can sprint like a teenager. Long distance running maybe, definitely not sprints.
Ps. Why are you jumping onto tables? Are you preparing for an interview for the new Hooters?
