These "White Savior" organizations bring tens of thousands of dollars - perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars - into Cambodia year after year
(along with the selfless people rescuing sunbears, maltreated elephants and perhaps even pubic lice) so the government has to weigh the substantial
financial contribution to the broad economy against the nasty publicity -
"We are WHITE SAVIORS in a benighted Third World country tracking down evil foreigners! Give us money now! As much as you can!
Only with your help can we protect innocent little children!
APLE has competition

Most children in any part of the world get abused by people they know in some capacity, NOT by strangers.racontuer wrote:
I used to defend people charged with crimes in the USA, some charged with this crime. There seems to be a fetishized focus on pedophilia in Cambodia. My experience teaches me that child rape goes down MOSTLY in close knit family situations in the western world because thats where people have opportunity and reduced risk. They can intimidate a child who trusts them. I imagine this dynamic is similar all over the world. Is pedophilia more common in poor countries, maybe, I don't know. But i would think the problem in Cambodia is similar to other places where the uncle or the neighbor grooms a kid and then takes advantage. So yea, you can be outraged by this crime and take action whereever you live because it goes on A LOT.
If this is the feller I'm thinking of, he claims to be ex-special forces (well, we all are right?) and sucked in a woman who's husband was Lebanese and had taken the children on holiday in the Lebanon. He turned up with a film crew from ABC, managed to grab the kids and was promptly arrested with the mother, the film crew and his mate (also ex-special forces), as, under Lebanese law the husband had done nothing wrong.
Last I heard, the wife was taking all the heat as she was identified as the conspirator and instigator having 'employed him.'
Good work son.

2015 Stats: 2.1 million tourists. .8 of which are coming from traditionally white western countries.Mèo Đen wrote:2013 [...] 8.2 percent

Cambodian men form the largest source of demand for children exploited in prostitution;however, men from other Asian countries, the United States, Australia, South Africa, and Europe travel to Cambodia to engage in child sex tourism.
(about 38%, some of who are still not white of course.)
Roughly 66% of these tourists are Asian's. Will this new organization (and does APLE) be looking under all the rocks, or just the scant white ones? I suspect that those are the only ones sitting under rainbows.
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
A poster here tried to ask a question on their FB page a couple of days. The poster asked why a presumed 11 year old victim had her picture on display while everyone else in the pic is pixelated.
Good question. Unfortunately they didn't give an answer an instead deleted the question and banned the poster.
Thanks to the 440 poster for being it to my attention.

After several challenges, they removed the post and pixelated the girl's face. However, they have now turned off all commenting on the page.scobienz wrote:A poster here tried to ask a question on their FB page a couple of days. They have also opened a restaurant - street 130 No 92 Eo.
They claim that each 'rescue' costs £25,000, a rather staggering claim imo

The donor industry is absolutely self-serving. Take the case where these 'orphanages' that were set up because the parents supposedly could not bring up their kids - now we have NGOs that have been set up to 're-educate' the same kids who were brought up in institutions so that they can integrate back into the society were taken away from....If you look at what Oxfam/ CARE etc. are currently doing in Cambodia, it bears no relation to what they originally came to Cambodia for. The incidence of AIDS has plummeted in Cambodia to less that 0.4% while increases in Estonia (1.2%), the Ukraine (1%) and Latvia (0.7%) - but who the hell wants to live the Ukraine or Latvia? Women can't afford to give birth so donors provide free hospital birth services; then they can't feed the same kids, so donors provide food; then they can't provide education, so donors provide free schooling; then they become junkies and share needles so donors provide ARVs etc etc....It's a great industry and I have been lucky enough to make a fortune from it.PorkPiePorn wrote:
I wondered if these kind of things happening could be entrapment or sting. More of these APLE NGO types on the ground could be laying traps like this. It occurred to me how bad this is, because, people go and report that this happened, when in fact it might not have been real, and further to that, these kinds of reports will encourage the kind of men seeking this kind of thing to go to Cambodia. In the end, the NGO's create an industry, just like a fire department that hires arsonists.

It's true, and the people on the ground are working for peanuts believing in the cause while the CEO's and executives study what ways bring in the most money. If the problems were actually solved, the gravy train would end so that is totally counter intuitive. Take the case of breast cancer awareness and fund-raising. I mean, who doesn't love breasts, and we all know someone who has had breast cancer. What kind of a cheap bugger wouldn't support breasts and give a little bit? Answer: Me, and the enlightened who know what is really going on and wont let others guilt me into supporting their schemes. Some of these charities (western based) are bordering on illegal.RBD wrote:The donor industry is absolutely self-serving. Good on you for calling it as you see it even though you are profiting from it.
