someone missed mfi's. they deserve better than a 'or whatever'.gavinmac wrote:Lying to staff at local businesses and duping them into giving you money you don't deserve is a dick move. It's not any more cunning than going around saying "I was robbed of my passport give me $20."What Your Name? wrote: I conjured up a cunning plan, yes Baldrick, you're not the only one. I went to an ANZ ATM, whom I know spat out 20s. After dispensation, I carefully thumbed through the notes, looking shocked, with my back to the camera, deftly replaced the offending 20, and then fronted the teller, expressed outrage that their ATM could produce such shoddiness. After complete denial, they viewed the footage and declared there was no proof because camera could not see, haha, I thought. Under sufference, they replaced the note.

The problem with US currency goes back more than a few years. Apparently the series printed before 2005 could be reproduced (forged) on the then available high end photocopiers and computer scanners. I am not sure which notes (denominations etc) were being forged but it was a real problem across most of East Africa - Kenya / Uganda / Tanzania. The US Federal Reserve was already away of the problem so in 2005 they introduced a new series - apparently the presidential heads changed (I can't remember if they were bigger or smaller) anyway the new series can no longer be reproduced or forged the way they previously were.

Hey, on a side note about my other adventures. I went to the pharmacy the other day and they told me they now don't take USD so i changed it at the money changer outside.
Wos that all about then? Government push against the USD?

Also some places refuse to accept $100 notes which has a 'J' prefix on the code...
Apparently a few years back there were some good copies doing the rounds with this series number so they'd rather just not take the risk now.
