Think most of my city dweller family peeps went cnrp. From what I've gathered, i know a bunch of people who voted CNRP but went to CPP rallies / parades due to workplace peer pressure and free shit . Will be an interesting result anyway.

The provisional results will be out this evening.

Internet woes... Vietnam’s notorious undersea internet cable?7:53 p.m.
NEC spokesman Hang Puthea says preliminary results are in for today’s commune elections, but are delayed because of internet woes. He says the National Election Committee’s nine members are verifying the results now.
Sister in law working as a vote counter in kampong bumfuck (a cpp stronghold) just called to say cpp win by a few dozen votes, very, very tight.
Brother in law who is a tank commander in kampong bumfuck called to say all tanks are filled up with fuel (which never happens) and ready to roll.
Shit could get 'real'. Let's wait and see.

I will take a crack at translating: the preliminary results (informal) that news agents received from various provinces show that CPP won most of the kom songkat once again among the total of 1646 kom songkat throughout Cambodia for the vote of choosing the advisors of the kom songkat the fourth (charter?) of the (today's date).
A detailed breakdown follows if you click the link.
I, too, am curious why the CNRP is more popular in the cities while CPP is all over the countryside. It may be like red state/blue state where the urban areas tend to skew more liberal.
Cheers!

Nothing unusual about the opposition having a majority in the capital, it's the provinces that matter.pedros wrote:Pp results are out. Seems close. Cpp 51 seats cnrp 54. From wife translate.com

Considering the xenophobia that underpins its party platform, I wouldn't cast the CNRP as a liberal caucus. PP has (relative to the countryside) better schools, engaged youth (again, to an extent) so the urban/rural paradigm is apt as it is anywhere else.merchantsmutual wrote: I, too, am curious why the CNRP is more popular in the cities while CPP is all over the countryside. The way the system works here, if you aren't working with the influential people, you are going nowhere. The opposition isn't just popular in the cities, it is popular in the whole central part of the country, the most populous provinces. Kampong Cham has been a hotbed of dissent for years, despite the PM coming from there. It wasn't just coincidental that the province got split after the last election.merchantsmutual wrote:

Partly I put this down to the urban elites, or even the lower classes, becoming affluent enough that they feel that they don't need to rely on previous power structures. I also think the powers-that-be need to reach out and gain people's confidence again.

CPP won all but 3 provinces so far. But the 3 going to CNRP are PP, KC and SiemReap
