You got that just about spot on. short term panic and pain for many due to uncertainty but for those who keep a cool head and play it right there is always huge opportunity. Many people who couldn't dream of buying real estate in 2006 could snap up an amazing bargain in 2012. And anyone who kept some cash in 2008 had unbelievable opportunity to get blue Chip stocks at bargain basement prices in 2009. Boeing stock was well under $30 then. Worth nearly $400 each today. Devastation for some is opportunity for others, although the average working stiff is rarely in a position to take advantage of such opportunity. Such is life.AnassRamaIV wrote:

i wud be super careful with china real-estate stocks for example and keep an eye out for over-capacity loss-makers that have bounce.

Wow. Just turned on me phone and found out the S&P down 3.3%, mostly because of some positive news about the economy which led to rate hike fears.
Sort of like Snooky's false economy in a way perhaps??
Even KFC got kicked out of Shitsville.

KFC is owned (SE Asia Franchise) by CP (Five Star Chicken) a huge Thai company. They could have a place in SHV but choose not too.spitthedog wrote:Wow. Just turned on me phone and found out the S&P down 3.3%, mostly because of some positive news about the economy which led to rate hike fears.

Don’t get excited about SP and the FTSE 100/500. They’re not very good barometers of economics.
Also. This winners and losers thing would be a very small percentage of people. The vast majority will suffer. Only the already wealthy win. So in fact there are no winners.

But my point was that the new SHV is simply a product of cheap money, and what happens when the taps get turned off?YaTingPom wrote:KFC is owned (SE Asia Franchise) by CP (Five Star Chicken) a huge Thai company. The S&P got spooked not on bad news, but on good economic data.
Is that good economic data driven by the cheap money?
So Shitsville vs the S&P, if you know what i mean. Both false economies?

But still they are big enough to have place in SHV but I feel even in PP the KFC doesn't get much customers now days.
I don't mind the occasional KFC in Thailand, Malaysia or China. But in Cambodia the quality is so bad I avoid them like the plague. But still they are big enough to have place in SHV but I feel even in PP the KFC doesn't get much customers now days.
KFC is owned by CP. They also own 7-Eleven, Honda, Walmart, CP Fresh and a myriad of other well known brands.
I tried it and it was gash which is odd because CP is great!
Who says Sihanoukville is a false economy?
It doesn’t look like it to me. All the doom mongers keep predicting it’ll fail though. If it does it’ll take Cambodia and its people with it.
But as long as the expats bet their 50c beer and beaches back it’s all good.
IMF and ADB (among others) have all predicted a 7% growth until 2020. Maybe you should give them a call and present your findings, or just say “S&P down!” and you can laugh at their stupidity.

Which of these companies derive any meaningful percentage of their business from the U.K. domestic market?:
1 HSBC
2 Royal Dutch Shell
3 BP
4 Vodafone
5 GlaxoSmithKline
6 AstraZeneca
7 Barclays
8 British American Tobacco
9 Rio Tinto
10 BHP Billiton
The answer is none of them. They benefit or lose more from GBP fluctuations than they do from the spending habits of the U.K. population.
Quoting the FTSE 100 in comparison to a market drop or proof the sky is falling in is nonsense.

The IMF? Did you mean growth or groping ?
Didn't the FTSE get spooked by the increased chance of Corbyn getting in and the fall in oil prices? Dunno.
Anyway i'm in Thailand. Truly amazing. No soggy som tams here.

KFC is just a franchise, in Cambodia they are run by one of the Royal Group subsidiaries.

Correct, for once. And they outsource their ingredients besides the famous KFC spice. Their chicken is small as shit. Try Lotteria. Tastes like shit, but much, much bigger. Just sayin.Lucky Lucan wrote:YaTingPom wrote:KFC is owned by CP. They also own 7-Eleven, Honda, Walmart, CP Fresh and a myriad of other well known brands.

Does seem odd - KFC and Five Star.
I believe CP sell chicks to Cambodian farmers (plus give them training and advice) and then they buy them back. They’ve been doing that since the 70s I believe.
Incidentally Sihanouville has completely run out of Five Star chicken.
