Returning to PP in June. Lived there from 2001 to 2010. Bringing my wife and three children, two of whom were born there. Wanted to visit some of the places we used to go to but not sure if they are still open: Chi Cha, the Pho place opposite Rising Sun, Boat Noodle in BKK, Tu Chan over by O'Russei Market. Any of those among the living still?
Also - last visits we have stayed at Himawari but looking for something different. I think the last time we were there we stayed at Kabiki or something behind the PM's compound. That was ok. Any BnB-type joints that are safe and that don't mind kids that are 13, 8 and 5? Looking for something where I can use credit cards at the hotel. It's just two nights or so before we get out to the province to stay with family.
Also slightly apprehensive about walking down the street with my 13 year old daughter. Nothing that we consider over here in La La, but I remember people being a bit nutzo about it in PP.
Checking in on old haunts

Chi Cha still there, I think. Pho place still there.
Almost all hotels and guesthouses take credit cards now. If they don't, then you probably wouldn't want to stay there.
If it's only you and your daughter walking together, you might get some dirty looks. I often go to Sorya or Aeon (new western-style Japanese-run mall) with my in-laws. My 5 year old niece and I will go wander around together. Some strange looks from western women, and once got videoed by a Khmer guy (he tried to be subtle, but failed. They're not good at subtle!), but no one ever says a thing. You shouldn't have a problem, especially if she speaks like a valley girl.
Have fun! This country has changed so much since 2010!

I've friend's staying in Plantation now. There are not many kids rather more couples, but I'd say you'd do well there with your children.LexusSchmexus wrote:I'd imagine Plantation or whatever it's called by the palace would be a nice place with kids.
